I used to have empathy for all parties involved. Obviously, a family's loss was the most tragic. I also felt that the Morning Rave was not entirely to blame since the legal department is supposed to give the green light for contests. However, after seeing this interview my feelings have changed about Lukas and Maney because of their serious lack of character and integrity.
"Devastating" seems to be the key word - they use it countless times while being interviewed. Now, before anyone blames the television station for slanting the story in the editing room, know that I actually watched the uncut interview (

They claim the contest was "handed to them". Really? In my years of experience in radio, more often than not, it's a morning show who pushes their ideas onto management and promotions. If they're not coming up with their own on-air contests then maybe they shouldn't have a morning show in the first place. True - it should have been cleared by legal, which appears not to be the case, but to throw almost everyone else under the bus and take on roles as martyrs is sick.
Interesting this law suit should come up
after the window of opportunity to get another Sacramento job closes. I understand that their careers were in radio but if they're that desperate for money, maybe they should go and pursue other means of work for the time being. Instead, most likely spoiled by a nice paycheck and some local notariety, they want to whine about not being able to get another job in this town. Trish moved on. Do you hear her crying about wrongful termination? No. She's taking care of her business and not trying to squeeze money out of anyone.
Anyone who is serious about being in radio should know that there's a very high probability of having to switch markets - that job stability is not the norm. Granted, the circumstances here are a bit different than just being fired for low ratings or because of budget cuts. Nevertheless, it's a harsh reality about the business. These guys need to grow a pair and lose the "entitlement" mindset.
