News 8 Then

So I managed to muster up the courage this week and clicked on Ch 8 to see if the "News 8 Then" franchise would still be around after the departure of McKinley. Much to my surprise, it was, and much to my disappointment, it was as I feared :-\ The anchors are now voicing-over the video and they've cut the segment into two pieces. Monday showed history from 40-30 yrs ago and Wednesday showed 20-10 yrs ago. LAME. The only conclusion that I can draw from this is that they have no one to edit the entire segment and that the anchors don't have the time to do it, so they're breaking it up into two pkg's. LAZY. Not to knock Maureen McGuire, but Dave's storytelling was head and shoulders above what this new incarnation is. I know it's not fair to compare the two, but really, if you're going to mess with something that was as successful as this particular franchise, then you need to step it up and make it better. I wasn't impressed at all, rather, it looked like something that was just put together for together's sake. The other thing that kills me is that Ch 8 is now soliciting viewers to "send in your pictures and videos". This just screams LAZINESS. Now that there's no one to actually look through the film archives, they're resorting to viewers to do the job. You mean to tell me that there's not enough history in those reels down in the basement to get the job done ??? Good grief. What a shame.

I agree that it's very sad. However, Dave put a LOT of time into News 8 Then. He got every Friday to work on it, so it's not fair to suggest laziness as a reason it sucks now. It sucks now because Dave isn't the one doing it, and no one can possibly put in 8 to 10 hours a week (sometimes more) into one package.

Precisely my point. If it's not going to be done well or be given the attention that it deserves, then it shouldn't be done at all. I propose that it is lazy. The fact that there's no one on staff to dedicate the proper amount of time to it suggests that management wants something on the air with the "News 8 Then" name on it regardless of the quality of the piece. I really don't want to harp on this, but I was just so freakin' frustrated when I saw the segment and needed to vent.

(deep breath)

Ok. Relax. Ahhh, that's better 8)

Ahhhhh, there it is, thank you so much. Thank god we have a new McKinley post. We had almost gone an entire week without a "the sky will be falling without him" thread. ::)
