News 92.3 KTAR

Some new imaging this morning as the station becomes "News 92.3 KTAR" ... the beds seem a bit weak but the VO and copy seems halfway decent. Is Jim Cutler their new voice?

Overall, though, I still think it's a big waste, at least for those of us used to getting our news "the old-fashioned way" as they now put it.

And congrats KT'R, you are legal...at least at 6:00am.

As heard in the TOH ID sounder: "KTAR-FM Glendale, KTAR Phoenix."

Early in the 6:00 quarter-hour, I noticed an ever so slight delay
(echo effect) between 92.3 and 620. A small fraction of a second.

The 92.3 format change went as follows: About 5 minutes of almost-unintelligible ads with a couple of equally semi-unintellible "Power 98.3" promos mixed in, right before midnight. That was followed by about a minute of dead silence and then a Meet The Press rerun when the 620 simulcast began.

No legal ID, either as KKFR or KTAR-FM, during this time, at least none that I could hear.

They seem to be having some audio problems at times, mostly with the traffic & weather. The sound other than that is excellent, but now Pauuulll Harrrveyyyy sounds really really old (of course he is really really old. ;D ), as opposed to just really old.

This will be a big help for listeners in office buildings, although the move to FM will probably shift the geezer-contingent to 1230 fulltime.

So how long does the 92.3/620 simulcast last before 92.3 goes it alone and we get a 620/860 simulcast for awhile?

Can't believe they finally killed those old music beds. About time. I like the new production. Can't get over hearing news on FM.

They have been saying simulcast through 12/31/06.

Wow... ::) That will be unavoidable, especially when 92.3HD comes online. Could be several seconds difference.

After listening today in AMD, noon and PMD, KT'R-FM does not
sound as loud as some of the other big-stick FMs (KOOL, K-Lite,
K-Slacks) and their processing (or lack of it?) is flat.

I guess they didn't want to keep the gangbanger processing
from their predecessor, but some tweaking needs to be done,
as one has to crank the volume up or down on the car radio
when switching to or from 92.3.

it sounds loud & clear to me

On two computers, on this end, it sounds TOO loud and not at all clear.

And the material that is not simulcasting the on-air signal - the Internet drop-ins over ads - sounds fine.

The actual programming sounds way too distorted.

I love the promo with their "old" sounds promoting the switch to FM. I also like the promo that says its like FM with a brain. haha. Love it! How long until FYI moves to 95-5

Sounds like they worked on the KT'R-FM processing overnight.

There's now some "punch" to the live voices and music beds,
where yesterday everything was flat, however the signal is
still not quite as loud as the most of the other 100-gallon FMs.

One glaring problem for a second day is the mix of voice tracks
and sounders--the voices are getting buried as often as not.
It's the same Audio Vault, right?

HA-HA...The Men In Secret Underwear used the old KT'R Newsradio 6~twenty sounder on that promo! Yes, they crapped on themselves! FM with a brain? Isn't that K-Jazz, which is far more intellectual than FM Toaster Talk. And when will FYEye move to 95~Five? Nurse Jeff and I are beginning to think that KT'R has done such an effective job of pissing-off their AM listeners, we may see a lot of that cume slide over to 5~Fifty in the Fall book! 9/18/06 will best be remembered as the day TMISU gutted a perfectly good AM station and lowered stick values in the market. Maybe they should have listened to that Mormon PSA about counting to 10 they run just about every hour!

Ooooo, I'm sensing FM envy from the dittoheads, very bad karma.

Goyette: settle down my dude. AM is going to be a okay. Video didn't kill any stars on radio and KT'R moving to FM won't kill your star or any other star on AM.

What I am cracking a gut on is how the same group of three people on this chat board who preach nothing but KT'R sucks rotten and has no one listening to it except my grandma in the Sun City is now saying KT'R killed a "perfectly good" AM station and lowered stick values in the whole market. Can't have it both ways. And by the way, the update on their PSA count begs the question of how someone who despises KT'R so much has such mastery of their log?

Speaking of logs.

Hate to say it but sounds like the man who brags about hanging out in the backseat of his car with male nurses and is obsessed with KT'R's underwear might just have stained his own.

Soiled underpants and serious stick envy.

Hope that nurse carries a glove.

The ghost of KM Richards is twitching at his keyboard, ready to edit the [EDIT= profanity] out of that seriously funny post.

Goyette? YIKES, indeed! We smell a tri-lateral conspiracy.

The Nurse and I never said no one listeners to KT'R...it's just their geriatric programming the last five years that kept most people under the age of 55 from listening! Just because they're on FM now, doesn't mean the programming is any better (have you caught 9-Noon lately?) Unlike Washington DC and Salt Lake City, TMISU have gutted a great AM signal and now are thumbing their noses on everything it was prior to 9/18. A 1 share may be all you get out of sports on 8~sixty, 9~ten or 10~sixty (and that's a stretch), but for cryin' out loud you're talking about 6~twenty with great power and coverage, 24/7. The Nurse and I can only imagine the inane sports shows that will fill the other 90% of the day KT'R-AM isn't doing PBP sports! As far as sticks go, seems like you are more "hung-up" on them than we. But when the number one billing AM with one of the market's best signals is leveled, there go property values!

Nurse Jeff and I now yield to the other one person who agrees with us.

He's busy exterminating raposas in the control room down south.

KTAR AM needs to make "word from the wild" their weekday morning show. And while they are at it, get that Air America station voice. That'll spice things up a little.
