News 95.7

While listening to coverage of 95.7 today during the UD game I heard Sandy Collins as well as two weather people say News 95.7. Neither mentioned AM 1290 and the station IDs still say 95.7 and AM 1290. I wonder if the simulcast will end with AM 1290?

Hopefully the simulcast of the AM & FM will continue. Although the FM signal isn't always the best in parts of the Greater Cincinnati area, it is helpful to have it available especially after sundown when it is very difficult to pick up the AM output. Actually, in seeing how far north of Dayton the FM's transmitter and tower are, I'm somewhat surprised that it comes in here as well as it does.

In Orlando, where Cox also has a simulcast AM-FM Talk format, they eventually converted the AM station to Sports. But in most other markets, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tulsa, etc., Cox has kept the simulcast. So my guess is they'll keep 1290 as Talk, because the FM signal licensed to Piqua doesn't fully cover the market.

It's true that when you have a simulcast, some stations forget about the AM. A few AM stations that have a low-power FM translator now give the FM's frequency and forget the AM's, even though you can't hear the translator more than 10 miles from downtown.

I heard them mention a different FM frequency, 101-something, I thought.

I don't bother trying to listen to them on FM as the signal is pretty bad - and I'm in (greater) Dayton !

You might be referring to 101.1, that relays 95.3 The Eagle

Haha ! Yeah, I could be.... I spend my drive home with my finger on the preset buttons, constantly changing !
