After years of struggling to hold Adelphia to its promises to expand access in Vermont, the Public Service Board (PSB) next week will delve into a proposal to shift most of the state’s cable services to a pair of companies that together control a huge share of the nation’s access and programming.

...Adelphia’s bankruptcy sale may provide the long-awaited promise of 21st-century communications technology.

WCAX-TV did a story Wednesday evening(July 13th)on what to expect from the upcoming sale of Adelphia to Time-Warner/Comcast.

The good news is that Comcast appears willing to go along with the agreements made by Adelphia to hang fifteen hundred miles of new cable in order to bring broadband to unserviced areas of Vermont.

"Adelphia's Vermont cable operation is just part of a $12.7-billion dollar national deal between Time-Warner Cable and Comcast Cable to purchase the assets of the bankrupt Adelphia and then re-align their cable holdings around the country. A six-month state review of the sale got underway Wednesday with a pledge that the new owners will meet Adelphia's commitment to build 15-hundred miles of line to bring broadband internet access to new parts of Vermont. The Public Service Board put those customer service penalties in place five years ago when Adelphia's operating franchise was renewed. The groups operating Adelphia's public access channels around Vermont want to make sure Comcast honors all their contracts. The Public Service Board will hold hearings in the fall and issue a final decision before the end of the year. It's all designed to coincide with the end of federal bankruptcy court proceedings on Adelphia."

Makes sense,

Comcast fullfilled AT&T's negligence in Springfield, MA by installing fiber throughout the city, making cable internet and digital cable availble throughout the city. Comcast poured a lot of money into what AT&T said was impossible. Thank god AT&T is no longer in the cable buisness, I was this close to dumping my cable all together.
