News Central quietly fades away...

I believe tonight's 10 PM newscast on WNYO-TV will be the last, not just for Buffalo but for "News Central" as a whole. I trust there will be angry mobs of disappointed viewers clogging the bridges to Grand Island to register their protest? And while I didn't see today's Buffalo News, I'm sure it was on the front page...right?

(In all seriousness, I did feel kinda bad for the WB49 crew I saw up in Canandaigua for the presidential visit a couple of weeks ago. At least they'll have something decent for their demo tapes.)

If nothing else, I guess we're spared the "why is there no local news on WUTV" thread for a few more years now.

Update - just saw a promo on WNYO-TV for "the last 10 O'Clock News, tonight."

I saw the final minutes of the last cast. They at least had the chance to say goodbye with some dignity. Not everyone gets that chance in this biz.

I wish them all well landing on their feet again, hopefully soon.

The smart thing would have been for the CIA or Homeland Security to beam "News Central" over to Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Jam all of their government-owned TV networks, including AL Jazeera, with Morris Jones and especially that guy giving his editorial comments at the end of the news.
By bombarding the airwaves with "News Central" the suicide-bombers would have ignited their weapons on themselves, just so they didn't have to watch TV anymore. Either that or they would have been so bored to death they would surrender peacefully.

The Point

I was wondering if WYNO will still air "The Point" with Mark Hyman, or any Sinclair station now their agenda driven news has failed? I understood that WUHF over in Rochester was airing it after their 10PM news ended, but who watches the irrelevant commentary anyways?

I hope someone else comes in and starts another 10 PM newscast in Buffalo, because WNLO now has a monopoly on news at 10 and that means their product could deteriorate. What's the market share like for WNLO? Did WNYO have its 10 PM news while WGRZ was still producing 10 PM news for WPXJ? If there is enough demand, perhaps WNGS should produce a 10 PM newscast for the market. Or, even WNED. WNED could put some focus on Canada, providing competition for The National on CBC. News has been attempted on PBS stations, most notably WGBH (where it hasn't run since 1991) and NJN (where it runs nightly).<P ID="signature">______________
