Yes, Alby's been hired fulltime by WPXI, and will share time with Fedko and Bill Phillips.

No word on any other ex-WPGH hires (i.e., Sheila Hyland).

I would hope Sheila gets hired at one of our local stations. I realize she left WTAE, but now with Sheba Russell gone, why not hire Sheila for weekends?

Or, KDKA in the morning on weekends. Paul Martino and Brenda Waters have as much chemistry as Chris Rock and Jack Benny.
Edited by Mrmusic on 01/31/06 06:17 PM.

True, but local TV related topics are generally tolerated on radio boards in markets where there is no separate TV board (like there, and here).

I personally don't care whether Station A picks up a sitcom or something, but the comings and goings of local personalities are fair game, IMHO...especially since a lot of 'em shuttle back and forth between radio and TV gigs - like FOX Sports Pittsburgh's Paul Alexander, former KDKA/1020 host, to name just one example. (Does Alby do any radio work?)

Understood, but if you open the door a crack, you're soon overrun by the people who want to endlessly discuss the comings and goings of weekend weather people. Then we're denied the Realist's wisdom about how no one in radio knows what they're doing.

On a combined radio/TV board, TV is probably always going to overwhelm the radio, so it's incumbent on the people in charge here to keep things on topic.

If you need a Pittsburgh TV discussion board, you can always bookmark this one:

I agree with OA on this one, and yes, Alby is part of the DVE Steeler pre-pregame show (before the network pregame) with Phil Kirczyk.
______________

Only mentioned it because the original firing of Alby was mentioned earlier on this board and I didn't happen to see the P-G article.
Edited by fromtheinsideout on 02/01/06 11:46 AM.

TV On Radio Board

I'd have to disagree here, since this site is oriented towards radio to begin with.

On the Cleveland board, we dabble in local TV discussion from time to time, but it's usually 95% radio. About the most we've talked about TV was a long thread on the recent "CW Network" announcement. It's nearly all radio unless something big pops up in local TV (i.e. retirement of a long-time personality, etc.).

The folks who run this Radio-Info seem to recognize the "radio with pictures" part of TV - local news and sports personalities, imaging, radio cross promotion, etc. - or they wouldn't have an entire subset of boards dedicated to TV.

No idea what that is...and here in Northeast Ohio, we don't have an equivalent board as far as I know.

I agree that the place shouldn't be "overrun" with TV stuff, particularly not related to actual local programming or personalities, but I don't see much of that happening on the R-I radio boards in markets that don't have TV boards on here.

And again, I'm talking local on-air personalities, locally produced shows and the station's local operations. It isn't worth much discussion if TV Station A moves Seinfeld reruns to 11 PM.

But as far as the general appropriateness of local TV discussion, I bow to R-I board moderators.

If the moderators paid any attention to the content here, some posters would have been banned years ago.

Re: TV On Radio Board

I suspect that comments on Pittsburgh TV will continue to be welcomed on this board until and unless Radio-Info.com either (a) launches a separate Pittsburgh TV board; or more likely, (b) expands the Philadelphia TV Board to cover all of Pennsylvania, including Pittsburgh.
