News Coverage Of Boston Marathon Explosions

Who in your opinion is doing a good job? I'm watching WCVB's feed on the Internet, they had audio issues while carrying live comments from Menino and Gov. Patrick. And the female anchor is using the word "clearly" like it's going out of style, literally twenty times in a single hour. I'm sure (I hope) WHDH and WBZ-TV have better wall-to-wall coverage today.

By the way: WSBK was supposed to re-air the Boston Marathon tonight - it's a no-go. Can you blame them?

Would anyone know if TV stations have come in from other nearby markets, like Springfield or Hartford to cover this? (like the nightclub fire)

Yes, I saw the WVIT news truck during my walk home from work this afternoon.

Of the Portland TV stations, both WCSH and WGME had reporters on the scene, while WMTW's truck was stuck in heavy traffic on the Tobin Bridge and on Storrow Drive and never got in a live shot.

WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford had a reporter at Boston Common on just after 6 PM. WCSH-TV (NBC) channel 6 of Portland had Sarah DeLage and Chris Rose outside of Quincy Market. I didn't check out WGME-TV's website from Portland. I don't even know if WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 of New Haven sent anybody.

At 11, WMTW finally got Meghan Torjussen (of Celtics tie fame) set up. WCSH had Rose and Delage, and WGME had Marisa Bodnar and Brad Rogers.

WBZ-TV remains live also, including online. Most of the coverage is repetitive, with some occasional new information.

'BZ's coverage ended at 12:36am, with WCVB staying on the story until 2am.

The NYC stations had a pretty big presence. WCBS-TV/2, WNBC/4, WNYW/5, and WABC-TV/7 all had live shots from Boston.

NY's WNYW Fox 5 carried about an hour of Boston's WFXT Fox 25 coverage in the 7:00 PM hour.

WLNE from Providence had reporters Melissa Toupin and Andrea Medeiros live from Copley Square on all of their afternoon and evening newscasts, and Dee Dequattro gave updates on their website.

Springfield's Channel 40 (WGGB-TV) & Channel 22 (WWLP-TV) both had reporters there. I don't know if the CBS affiliate in Springfield was out there or not though.

WBZ-4 probably had the best early coverage (right after the blasts occurred) since they had broadcast the Boston Marathon and had people and equipment at the finish line.

Had WCVB-5 and WHDH-7 both broadcast the race (as they used to, but not this year), both stations probably would have had slightly better coverage in the first minutes.

But overall, an excellent job on coverage by Boston's TV stations.

BTW, WBZ had planned to rebroadcast an taped and edited version of the Marathon last night (April 15th) in prime-time over sister station WSBK-38, but that rebroadcast was understandably cancelled.

The cancellation of the edited rebroadcast of the Marathon was so that WSBK could carry CBS programming that evening.

CSN-NE simulcasted NECN's coverage without the NECN graphics.

NBC sports Net simulcasted WHDH's coverage which made it available on a nationwide basis.

I noticed that all the network stations in Boston are airing the service today, but NBC is the only national network airing it. I thought CBS was going to, but apparently not. There was originally going to be a special episode of the price is right, but it was rescheduled for May 3, and they're airing a rerun instead. Why air a rerun if they're not airing the service?

WSBK is carrying the CBS feed and WCVB-5.2 is running ABC’s.
