News From Monterey Bay...

Isn't KOMY the station that screwed with John Mac Flanagan? He was going to make a return to live radio. Then they pulled the rug out from under him?

Hmmm. I may vaguely recall something along those lines. I'm trying to recall who the other fellow was that got caught up in it. (djj, do you recall?)

I do know that the fault could be spread in several directions, though: a person that was brought in to manage the operation reportedly pushed for going in the Jones satellite direction rather than doing (at least limited) live and local. It could have been fun, buuuuuuuut...

Yes, I do recall, David...some mush-head named Jay Arnold, no?
;D

...it's too late. Should be interesting to see what KIDD does ratings-wise, which will likely be no more
successful than Scott Shannon's T.O. format on KFRC in SFO...

BTW, the KOMY website still brags: "The sound of success in the Monterey Bay Area is KOMY 1340!"
Evidence: < http://www.1340komy.com/ >, which is still showing the satellite DJs listed, and who is on-air now...
Boy oh boy, M Zwerling's really on top o' things...

And what are your thoughts on how long KOMY simulcasts KSCO?...

P.S. - as of Wednesday night, 4/8, there have been zero articles about KOMY's "death" within the Monterey Herald,
Santa Cruz Sentinel, or even the Watsonville Register-Pajaronian websites. As Jeanette "Baby" Washington sang in
1960, "Nobody Cares" - try finding a commercial radio outlet to air that great song!

It's not all gloom and doom...
Buckley kwav/kidd/kyzz just hired former kmby midday/night jock casey "kaizer" Robertson, who has been doing production at Mapleton since x1039's demise as well as voicing and imaging kcdu and kqpt for Mapleton, to take nights on kyzz jammin 979.

You obviously don't know Jay and aren't familiar with his work. He's one of the most talented radio personalities around, and a real good guy. I'd put his knowledge of the Oldies (and music in general) up against anyone.

If you don't know him, you should probably keep your mush-headed comments to yourself! ;D

KOMY/1340 will flip to an Easy Listening/Adult Standards format on Wednesday (April 15) at noon. Think of it as an M-O-R version of "Jack." How about "Bing"? ;)

MZ has been in and out of the hospital (in today, back out hopefully tomorrow) which delayed the switch. I heard the new "Memories and Magic" imaging last week during a quick visit -- I think it sounds very interesting.

The transmitter and towers are supposed to be repaired by next week, which should get the station back up to full power.

Finally.

It should be interesting to see how the new KOMY's ratings do, especially since a slightly-older
but somewhat-similar-approach that KIDD "Magic 63" utilized was failing in the recent ratings before
they switched to oldies...

As for the repair of KOMY's signal, I'll believe it when I hear it...their weak signal has been emanating
for way too long now...

I was driving through San Jose around noon, and (of course) KOMY/1340 was running "Dead Doctors." They're running Alex Jones from 9 a.m. to noon, then an hour of "DDDL" Monday through Friday.

The actual switch to Adult Standards came at 1 PM, by which time I had reached Fremont and the station's signal was only barely audible.

KOMY is streaming online at http://www.komy1340.com/

The signal is weak in Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach, Salinas, Carmel Valley (barely audible)....where many of their listeners would be?? Plus, no night-time signal?

Anyone know what's going on with this station? They could really clean up (with the dumb mistake KIDD made) with this format if they can straighten out the signal??
