News item: Verizon to try TV service

Verizon is expected to announce Thursday that it will begin selling its FiOS TV service throughout Keller,Texas, using the same fiber-optic system that carries voice and broadband Internet service.

The launch will make Verizon the first national telephone company to also sell television service to its customers. However, other big companies are not far behind.

And more power to them. Create some much-needed competition in that industry. Maybe the rates will tumble as well. I know on my end of town, analog basic + expanded basic cable (no movie channels) runs $55 a month after tax. I dumped it for the $30 dish, and don't have to pay all those stupid municipal taxes either. I don't have every single channel I once had, but $30 beats $55 AND beats rabbit ears.

A friend told me Wylie, TX has been wired as well now for Verizon's FiOS. I'm sure TV service is not far behind there, either.
