News Jobs at KUHF

And BTW, as someone who worked there until I retired two years ago, I can tell you the pay is competitive. Public radio isn't "Poverty Row" anymore. Not in Houston anyway.

I'm a recent convert to KUHF and kicking my own butt for not tuning in before. It's a real radio news station. The features they offer are mind boggling and over the top professional, as in big time sound and presentation. When did you work there?

I worked there from 1993 until I retired Sept 1st 2010. I was the local host for Morning Edition for the last 13 years I was there. My wife and I now live in east Texas.

Working at KUHF was the greatest and most professionally satisfying job I ever had. The people there are great, and the managers treat you with respect. The pay and benefits aren't bad either. You won't get rich in Public Radio, but you won't go hungry either.

In all, I worked in Houston radio for 45 years. From 1965 till 1991 I worked at various commercial radio stations, including KIKK AM, KPRC Radio in the 70s, when it was a genuine news station and a great place to work. In the ensuing years, I did two hitches at KTRH -- one in the late 70s, another in the late 80s and early 90s.

I can speak from experience about how horrible it was to work at KTRH. Coming to KUHF in 1993 made me feel like I had died and gone to heaven.
