News program on CHR Stations

Most CHR stations don't do news anymore, but I was thinking it would be neat if a station tried producing an entertaining week-in-review news program that reaches CHR listeners. The program could recap the week's news, feature an interview with someone making news, have time for listeners to call in about the news and each host would do a funny monologue that takes a satirical look at news too. The show would be radio's version of The Daily Show. I don't know if it would work, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.

I think that's an interesting idea, and I'd love a show like that, but considering that you can't even get 30 seconds of real news during AM drive, I doubt anyone would try it. Most people in the demo vote for American Idol, but won't bother voting in 2008. There is a TV show in Canada like this... The Hour.

You can watch the show online.

The host was slated to host a reality show in the US, but ABC pulled it after one airing. I had heard the show was cancelled before it was done airing on the west coast. He's well-known in Canada. He was on our music video channel for many years, as well as radio.

Morning drive as well. Both are produced by WWMT, the local CBS TV affiliate. Well-done news briefs, too.

Of course, you also have to consider that WKFR dayparts and goes after both the older and younger crowds. It's probably the older listeners that appreciate the news updates. A station going after strictly the 18-34 crowd would probably have a hard time making it work as well.

I have thought about that for the longest time! I love the idea, and I think there would be a demand for this considering the change of the times and the actual interest that teenagers have now current events. The only problem is that it tends to get boring and depressing. Something in the vein of The Daily Show would probably do great.

If anyone wants to persue this, I'd love to help...
