News Ratings???

michael hagerty said:
If there's interest, I can post the usual breakdown tomorrow.

Consider there to be interest, yes.

Especially so we can compare the real numbers against how McRag
will spin the story in favor of Mc12 (with Misner quotes and all). ::)

Yes, Michael, there is definitely interest! Thanks in advance.

For some reason, newspapers seem to be using station press releases these days. Of course, I'm sure that 12's corporate relationship with the Arizona Republic makes it fairly easy for them to get 12's press releases. The nice thing is that most TV stations post press releases on their website. So, I always go hunting to see other opinions on the ratings. ;)

Yes, interesting press release!

#1 at 5pm, #1 at 6pm, and #1 at 10pm -- AND the fastest growing morning show (UP 20% at 6am)!!!

It makes want to break out in a round of "Ain't No Stopping Us Now..." :D :D :D

We'll see the truth tomorrow from Michael...

These are my questions remixed from a summer post:

...Any trends on ...news ratings? Is 12 still on top? Has the Kent/Sean Show made a dent? Is 3 or 10 number one in mornings? Is 15 finally starting to make a move?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the one-day delay.

No problem. This the Mountain time zone.

Years ago, in Tucson and/or Phoenix, we regularly had prime time shows
on a one-week delay on 2" tape (with banding, scalloping, breakup), or on
a two-week delay from a crummey--oops, sorry Joe ;D--I mean crummy,
16mm film print.

Or even the entire prime time lineup, albeit on a zero-DB, aired from 16mm
reduction prints (KTVK/KGUN).

No wonder KPNX is crowing. All these lineup changes and improvements at the other stations - and 12News still dominates the evening news race.

I guess for channel 5, that would be Sean and not watched.

Good grief! KPHO is not doing well. I now understand why Mike Chamberlain was replaced mid-sweeps with Chris Corragio. KPHO's am ratings stink (except at 4:30am when they're the only local newscast).

Kent and Sean are bombing at 5pm and Diana Sullivan doesn't add anything at 5:30pm.

ABC15 must be pleased with their performance at 6pm and not a bad showing for them at 10pm (a respectable 3rd place).

It appears to be good news (finally) for ABC15 in afternoon and evening news numbers. Looks like Charles Gibson delivers the goods and a substantial lead-in for the 6pm News. Question - is ABC programming stronger, or has ABC15 News developed legs?

No question 15 is riding the coattails of Charlie Gibson. Also they are sandwiched in beween Charlie and Jeopardy at 5 and him and #1 Wheel of Fortune at 6. Let's face it, that has to be aiding them. On the other hand, Katie Couric's lousy numbers are no doubt hurting 5.

I think the real story is 12's staying power (and significantly growing in the am). You've got to hand it to them, I don't think there is more than one or two other major-market NBC affiliates that are still #1. The large majority of the major-market #1 stations these days are ABC, with the rest CBS. Maybe KPNX is fortunate that they're in a unique market with a pretty weak ABC affiliate and a CBS station that is still trying to find the right combination.

Phoenix is a unique market in that we have 5 full newsrooms with newscasts throughout the day. It does raise the bar a bit!
