My oh My. How quickly things change.

The March. The Sedona Fire. The Serial Killers. The Trapped Worker. The London Terror Plot.

This is getting embarrassing for KFYI.

Michael Anthony changes places and his new team is smacking down his old shop. What a turn of events.

Is it just me or can you sense more attitude coming from KTAR lately? It's like they have suddenly gotten a backbone and put their people to work. As a native, this sure sounds a lot more like the ole' KTAR to me. Suddenly they're not the punching bag they used to be. Now... if they could just hire a few good hosts. You got to think they're saving something for when they go fm?

Or Maybe this posting is just a KT'R employee patting them selves on the back for a job "well done". personally...I have nothing but respect for Mike Anthony..he is a news addict! But...the news on ktar is a bit on the overkill side if u ask me. we dont really need to hear 17 different "slants" on the same story.

When it comes to coverning news, KT'R has the tonnage. The Emmis Brain Trust never figured out how to use it to their advantage. Chickboss saw the weakness and successfully went for a news image with a talk format. The Men In Secret Underwear knew they had the firepower, but until Mike Anthony came on board, they too didn't know how to use it. So when the airline scare came yesterday, KT'R had two to three times the reporters on the story than KFYI. KT'R has also stepped up their ability to produce great promos with a minimum of turn time. Until recently KFYI had that advantage, but no more. So what does all this mean? KT'R has momentum and soon will be on FM where 85% of all listeners hang. KFYI is adrift with no P.D., no plans for FM and relying on talk programming to capture news listeners. YIKES! And speaking of swinging pendulems, Nurse Jeff and I caught Roberta Gale last night and thought for a moment she was the reincarnation of Charles Goyette. What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a goin' on at KFYI? ???

.....username1 (has to be a K'TR employee).

The only good thing 620 has going for them is their website, which by the way is the future of radio. More people stream the station(s) at work, home, etc... than anything else. (...it's what I do)

I can tell you first hand that if KTAR has any chance of surviving on the FM dial, their programming is going to have to change. Aside from the Sheriff Joe appearance on Thursday morning, their isn't anything I'd listen to on that station. As for KFYI, their news is short and sweet... just the way I like it. Sure, you could have 20 different sidebars to a story, but for what. 550 has the advantage with their programming (w/Hannity and Rush), and then they compliment that with "controversial conservatism". It appears to me that most folks on this board are Arizona "life'rs". Too bad, because for those of us who visit/work in this market...and haven't been here forever...then you're just setting yourselves up for a letdown.

Before I head back to LaLa Land...let me just put this out there...
I've seen the ratings...and K'TAR hasn't been close to the top for some time...

Until they do, The 620 machine will always be considered the underdog...and the underperformer.
-They have nearly double the on-air/reporting staff that KFYI does.
-They have a bigger budget (Bonneville has money to burn for some reason)
-They have committment to Sports (thank you Mrs. Lasorte)

I believe KTAR has the tools to be on top, but since the "other guy" is doing better with less, I tend to bet the odds!!!

BTW - Who's going to have the better website? KFYI-Fox 10 ... KTAR-KPHO

Seems to me Bonnville has to be hoping that everyone in CC has the same attitude as Happy.

Less is More might apply to commercials but you've not only drank the kool aid you're making it if you think that phrase applies to news. Doesn't take an accounting major to realize that when it comes to serial killers, planes being blown up, or mexicans marching its better to have dos reporters than one. Never heard the promo for news that declares watch us because we have fewer people and they have more budget. ;)

Bonneville has got to hope that everyone in CC keeps viewing KTAR as the underdog. Something tells me when they get their act together in talk and get someone worth listening to the puppy may grow some teeth. They've certainly fixed the news and production pieces. Who knows tho. Maybe they'll screw this up and continue being pummeled in the future like they have in the recent past. Wouldn't shock me. Just got a feeling they got something up their sleeve. Fun to watch.

IT'S OFFICIAL....username1 is a Bonneville employee. And I concur with Happy on a couple of different things. 1st....Programming is what draws and keeps listeners. KT'R (if in fact they do have a "plan") is going to need some excellent shows to beat the rush and shawn ratings. McBland isn't gonna do that..he's way to boring. 2nd...FM Talk...isn't really getting the greatest ratings (i.e...Free FM...and Adam Corolla, Tom Lykis, and Frostie, Heidi, and Frank are alot more entertaining than anything I've heard on KT'R. Just because u put something on the FM dial..doesn't mean it will grab the ratings it failed to grab on the Am side. I do hear some noticable differences on KT'R lately...but nothing that has made me want to tune in and stay tuned in....which last time I checked is what makes advertisers and listeners want to be a part of your station.

KTAR is awful, considering the money they have to play with. Just awful. I feel sorry for the stockholders AND I'm glad I'm not one of them.

Stockholders? In LDS lingo they're called stakeholders. And being a church run outfit, don't look for an annual report anytime soon from The Men In Secret Underwear! But do you think shareholders of Clear Channel common stock have any say? They're about as influential as the guy working overnight at the Buckeye Circle K.
