and resulting traffic problems....some news station....and Monday --the chamber of commerce hacks...Heidi and Alan Stock will say there was no problem with the businesses involved or the emergency response...It was the fault of the citizens for wanting propane

the hiway stations had good coverage even though it was out of their area...

there are a few bars in the area of the explosion....maybe that will motivate Heidi to do a live remote?

Funny, I've been listening to their non-stop coverage all afternoon. Sounds pretty good at that.

Post Script:

I heard KXNT off and on for 4 hours. Their coverage was better than anything else I heard. 1280 did some cut ins but that was it. KNews didn't seem to have anything at all. KDWN was a joke.

I heard a cop on the air (with Jack something and Patrick D), give the all-clear to the evecuated people to come home almost 20-25 minutes before the TV stations did. Got to give them credit for handling it pretty good.

DL, you seem to have a problem with KXNT. I thought they did a good job. Who do you think did better?

I think we did better....While KXNT was telling people there were no traffic problems, we were reporting that I-15 was closed, and why. We were first.

We aired the press conference live, and stayed with it....granted, with cut-ins....Until it was over.

KDOX? How? There is no staff! There is no news department! There is no programming department! There is no sales department!

Oh, that's right. John-David Wells is ALL of those because he is better than anyone else.

JD, Face it.

A Dash.

LV....

How about this....If FOXNews1280 gets a 1.0 share 12+ by the end of the year, you apologize to me on this board for all the nasty stuff you've said, and reveal your identity.

Listening to you, it seems like a safe bet to me....

the kxnt people patrick et al came in after the fact and did a rehash....they missed the breaking event...it was cya on their part ......1280 and hiway stations had good information at the time......tv was on top of it...you think someone could switch to a tv feed broadcast...you know something like this will happen again...are you ready??

I find him to be articulate, funny, his political opinions are reasonably thought out, & I have NO DOUBT that KDOX wil become a smashing success! All news-oriented stations have growing pains, I am old enough to remember when KFWB 980 went from rock n' roll radio to all-news in "68(i believe), & it took awhile for them to be able to compete on the same level as the legendary KNX 1070. Please give JD a break & let him & his staff carve out a niche in LV radio BEFORE you judge him too hastily, because being a radio buff(as well as a pop music buff), I can give many examples of stations being left for dead (for one reason or another), only to rise from the ashes & become very viable in their particular marketplace! Give the man some room on this one, please, & let him work it out.

Well said Maestro...KDOX has showed up in the ratings (just short of showing up in the books) in just 4 months of being a news-talk radio station. JD is doing an outstanding job with his crew over there at 1280AM. KDOX is sure to come from the backstretch right into the homestretch in the up coming months. It's obvious LVradioguy has personal issues with JD and has nothing but venom to spew in these postings. All I have to say is just wait and KDOX will show up in the books in no time. Jon-David is a proven professional with knowledge of the industry to make KDOX succeed and he has already proven that in just 4 months!!!!

Does JD even have a show on 1280? He needs to cancel one of the syndicated shows the station runs and put himself on. If KDOX has the budget, they should add two or three local shows, that will give them a big advantage over the other talk stations. I would also tinker with the syndicated lineup until it's filled with shows the audience responds to. If by any chance KDWN drops Michael Savage, KDOX should grab him, it will be a golden opportunity for the station to be discovered by talk listeners.

I am confident that JD knows radio and talk radio well, but I don't believe 1280s current lineup is strong enough to bring KDOX from the "backstretch right into the homestretch". Changes will eventually have to be made for the station to have a chance at success.

I agree Jay that JD needs to have his own show on KDOX. From what I know, it's coming! The current line up has helped KDOX get on the map and, yes, it is possibly time to tweak the schedule a bit. Michael Savage would be a great addition. But most importantly, KDOX needs to get Jon-David on the air with his own show and then we'll see some great things to follow!

Here's a friendly programming suggestion for JDW: If KDWN drops Savage, air him live 3-6pm, then Have a "live", local/national issue-oriented call in show hosted by yourself(!) from 6-9pm. That would be an unbeatable twosome when you compare what the competing stations would be airing at the same time. Comments?

Thanks so much for the statements of support....And the suggestions.

I'm serious about trying to build this station as a monument to radio as an ON-AIR PRODUCT....Not a marketing tool....Not as a profit center....Not as proof that a good sales and marketing plan can make anything a winner. So if you're an on-air pro, with a constructive suggestion...Tell me, and I'll give credit where credit is due.

As for putting myself on the air...I'll be honest. I'm really pissing myself off. My attitude, arrogance, and the fact that I'm such a damn know-it-all, really drives me crazy. I just want myself to show up, do my job, and stop trying to run everything. Frankly, if I don't get myself to shut and listen to what I want me to do, I'm going to blow myself out.

You are a case, Johnny D! (Or whatever multiple screenname you're using) I really like when you praise yourself!

Who is selling spots on your station? A friend tried to buy, and was told they could only buy KJUL AND KDOX. He didn't want KJUL so he never bought. Seems strange to let money walk away.

Oh wait, I forgot. This is not about the money.

Edit.....I apologize. I talked to my friend and that story was not entirely true. He didn't buy KDOX because......."They just suck". His words, not mine.

Guess it's really NOT about the money.

First of all dimwit....I'll ask again, why should I use a screen name other than my own? Second, why steal praise, when I can earn it? (To sneak around substituting aliases for reality would make me.....you!)

Your friend (as if you actually might have one, but I'll play along) says, "We just suck." How? In what ways? Compared to what stations?

Our technical presentation is second to none. We carry more news; National, State, and Local than any radio station in town. Our sydicated hosts are at least as good as anyone else's. We're first on breaking news, have the best traffic reporting in town, and the fewest commercials to boot.

Know what I think? I think both you and your friend share the same sad, destructive, and foolish problem....radio has just passed you by. It'll end up costing him money. It's already cost you your self respect.

S'Ok....Armed security will pay you more than Las Vegas radio. More if you get to carry the duty bullet. Good Luck, Barney....
