News Stations Should Be Ashamed of Themselves

Did anyone hear Joe Crummey on Wednesday afternoon? Joe had Collette on the air. She is the woman who was kind enough to let all of the local media up on her roof to get shots of the Winscape Apt mayhem when the serial shooters were caught. Well the womans roof was destroyed by the local media and all their equipment...did any of them replace or offer to fix her roof! F**K NO! But...they were nice enough to offer her some T shirts and hats! HA! But lucky for Collette..Monty from KYKO roofing comes to the rescue! Dude is fixing it for free! Good to see there are some decent people left in the world. Oh and what a business move by Monty too huh??? The companies responsible for this should be ashamed for not fixing what they broke. After all they DID get their story didnt they.

I don't think the media was going to leave her high and dry. This was a case of a businessman seeing an opportunity to score some PR points. Kudos to Monty for fixing her roof, but he's getting good press out of the deal.

I think the media outlets were still discussing the situation with their attorneys and corporate suits. They lost out, though. You snooze; you lose!

AS USUAL, you people post things without having done any research on the topic. This morning in the Republic, this article ran:

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/local/articles/0816roof0816.html

It says this: So far, Channel 12 (KPNX), an NBC affiliate; Channel 5 (KPHO), a CBS affiliate; Channel 15 (KNXV), an ABC affiliate; KTAR Radio, and The Arizona Republic have agreed to pay $200 apiece.

It says nothing about Joe Crummey, KYKO or Clear Channel.

Uh, oh! I think we have another Kyko commercial with Monty & Captain Stupor about to happen, based on this incident. ;D

That's what happens when you get your information from stations that feature oxycontin addicts, neoconservative Bush sycophants and local wanna bees and never wases…

LOL!!! Its says nothing about those stations because none of them were involved in this ladies roof! And even though they have "agreed" to pay..if u heard what the lady said on the air...SHE STILL HAD NOT BEEN PAID! As much money as these combined media angencies make every year...that check should have been cut THE NEXT DAY!

Down boy, sludge. We know you're quick to give your CC stations props any way you can. funny how KFYI's first communication with this lady was to interview her this week. Notice they were the only "news" station not on her roof the day of the serial scumbags arrest. No, they were too busy recording Channel 10 so they could put something on the air on this story. But, hey, cut 'em some slack. At least there time checks were accurate. ;D

The point is that the original post from sledge350 said "not one of those stations offered to help." Which was completely inaccurate.
Of course Clear Channel, Joe Crummey & KYKO weren't mentioned, because they jumped on the bandwagon after the article was printed!

The article clearly states that the stations were waiting until all 7 news organizations signed off on it. And cut a check the next day? That's most likely not the way it would work anyway. Probably, the repairs would be done first & then they would pay for it.

And to be perfectly blunt...nobody owes this lady anything! They didn't storm her house & hold her at gunpoint & force themselves on her roof. She gave them permission, and they offered to pay for it because it's the right thing to do - not because they have to. Therefore, no timetable.

You're 100% correct: the media owed this woman nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada!

That said, I think we all know how things play out in the press, especially in situations like these. The public looked at this woman as a victim of the media's overzealousness (are they wrong to think that?). They [the public] don't care that the woman offered her roof as a look-out post. What matters is how the media deals with the situation (i.e.- the perceived victimization of this poor, helpless woman). This now becomes a PR game and KFYI/KY-KO Roofing won the game!

Kudos to KFYI and Monty for winning the game! Take that, MISU! :p

They were the only news station not on the woman's roof? If so, props to them. KFYI is a RADIO station. The news media on that roof were there to get pictures. It makes no sense for a radio station to have someone up there unless there was a standoff, which, in this instance, was not the case.

I would say one of the TV stations or newspapers that caused part of the problem should have just sucked it up and paid for the damages without regard for what other outlets might do. They would have won a p.r. battle and simply done the right thing. Kudos go to the station that thought of doing that - KFYI. I would give accolades to any media outlet that stepped up: only one did.

Let me offer my help.

If your a reporter it seems to me you want to be where you can see what's happening. Maybe the media got on the roof to see the police taking guns out of the apartment and towing the dumpster away. That might be important for a reporter to see. Silly me.

As far as KFYI owning the media exposure on this one.... I missed the newspaper stories or tv reports even on their buddy channel 10.

It's amazing how vocal the ballroom on the Titanic is becomming. Keep dancing. Ahoy mate. 8)

ROFL!

Then again, after you factor in the :07 language delay
plus the :09 IBOC delay...

I've even heard that nimrod Jacobs in a toss to traffic (when he
finally shuts up and does it) use some throwaway line such as
"...it's 6:22:48 and now from the traffic center here are..."

Of course when that's heard on air it's more like 6:23:04.

Hey, maybe we can have Uncle Charlie ding both KT'R and 55/FYI
for "transmitting false signals." ;D

I now invite the several atomic watch haters to resume their flaming. ::)

I stand by my assertion that radio reporters have no real reason to stand on a roof for hours and hours after the salient portion of the event has occured. I could stand there and say "two officers have taken a gun from the apartment" and an hour later say " an officer has now removed a plastic bag full of what me may presume is evidence." Hey, that's GREAT radio!

No, I have a better idea. How about the radio reporter lets the TV guys get their pictures while he gets SOUND from, oh, I don't know, the cops, a neighbor, whomever else.

To put it another way.. let me help.

TV has pictures, and sometimes they use words to explain the pictures. Radio has ... words and sounds. Either the reporter says them or someone else does. If the event is not producing words or sounds, the radio reporter better find them somewhere. He won't do that standing endlessly in one place.

And, by the way, if KTAR had gotten Monty to pay up, I'd give them the props.
