Which big sticks for rent are you referring to? All the big sticks are controlled or mismanaged by the corporate morons. News makes money in other major markets. I guess Yewstun isn't a major market.

Many of the AMs in town are brokered ethnic programming. Want one with a big stick? Strike a deal with Multicultural for KXYZ.

KTRH was what KTRH should be during Ike. I remember listening to it most of the way to Fort Worth (where we evacuated), as well as much of the next week during the recovery, enjoying it for the service it provided but knowing KTRH being the news station it proclaimed itself to be was all too fleeting.
Said it before and will welcome the bashing ... no good reason at all Houston does not have a 24/7 news station. It works in New York and Chicago. Cities like Houston and Dallas are ripe for this. Not that any corporates have the cojones to do it.

Its the top billing format in several major markets. So successful, in fact, that others are starting FM news outlets as well.

Houston has crap for news on radio.

I would like to add to Stan's thought that the entity, AM,FM,TV,Internet is no longer the end but only the means of broadcasting or making a product available. What I am saying is NEWS RADIO would work very well in Houston, perhaps not on a stand-alone AM but perhaps and AM/FM combo with strong streaming presence etc. Don't expect anything like this from CHEAP CHANNEL and I ♥ Radio. Not gonna happen. CBS is always a possibility, they know how to do news RIGHT and make money with it.
 
What major market stations are doing well with all news besides NYC, Chicago, LA and Phila? According to the schedule on their website, KRLD Dallas has news 5 AM-8 PM M-F, 8-9 AM Sat and 6:30-8 AM Sunday, and they're # 21 in the market with a 1.8.

KOMO NewsRadio in Seattle is doing very well. Always in the top 5.
 
One is several? Seattle is a huge market? Format is too expensive, you could do it if it was an extension of an existing news outlet say, TV or newspaper but as a stand alone it does not work, too expensive. Bean counters would be all over it if they could make money with it.

Stan your comment was that news stations were performing and billing well in major markets, we have no news station so including Houston in the list would be sorta stupid. But for the record I'm pretty sure KTRH is billing well ::)

All it tells me is talk radio listeners aren't particularly fond of baseball. I'm a regular KTRH listener, but found myself listening to a lot of Clark Howard when Astros games were on.
