News/Talk 1160?

With Furman and Boshears running the halls there, could something be up?

I doubt they are switching formats. Furman has been there for over a month now and the oldies are still going strong there.

They were rated 5th on one of the adult radio rating scales of Cincinnati not long ago. WDJO used to be News/Talk before they flipped to oldies, and with the competition for that format already in the Cincinnati market, it would not make sense to go news/talk again. The Oldies sound good on 1160, especially with the great programming and large playlist that the station has.

Salem tried and failed with Newstalk 1160 which is why they left the area. Also, let's not forget Supertalk 965 which failed to catch on. Clear Channel has the monopoly in the Cincinnati market with both WLW and WKRC doing news and talk. I don't see that changing soon.

I don't live in Cincinnati, so I cannot totally 100% gurantee this, but I do travel to cinci several times per year. I have listened to WDJO at night, they do seem to have a solid signal in Cincinnati, and I could hear them up to about 25 miles north of the city when headed towards dayton at night.

I need one of your radios...when attending a WDJO sponsored event last year at the Taft Theater in downtown Cincinnati, the signal was great when I parked. When we came out at 10:30 or so, it was unlistenable. From my observation, it's a daytime only station unless you live in northern KY.

In winter, it's more like midday only. Critcal hours it gets torn up by WYLL Chicago, a Nashville area station, and an ESPN oputlet (I think it's in South Jersey). There are a lot of stations on 1160.

The internet stream is the way to go.

And what a superb sounding stream it is! The AM is almost just a promotional tool for the web stream.
