News Talk 95.5 WSB says...

Let me tell you something that happened here in Az as a response to this; Newstalk KFYI was beating the hell out of Newstalk KTAR. KTAR went fm and took the 92.3 frequency. KFYI is still on A.M. (with rumors about taking over Smooth Jazz 95.5 on FM). KFYI on AM is still beating the hell out of KTAR on FM.

So in other words, I'm not too sure that one talk station on FM means another choice on AM will be completely forgotten. But then again, KFYI has always been pulling in the numbers. By the looks of things here, it must not have been the same case with WGST.

Well, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken scratch. And how many times have we said that CC needs to put WGST on an FM side? WGST is going to get clobbered in PM drive (even more so) after daylight saving time ends this fall.

I remember when I was little and didn't know much,if anything, about radio, I used to sit in my room and listen to WGST. They used to make fun of 750 WSB and their helicopter and plane and talk about how they have four helicopters to cover the state traffic and news while WSB had one helicopter and a silly plane that could only fly by and not hover. It's funny how a station can influence you to believe they are better, especially when you don't really know how radio works behind the scenes. I actually had to come here to discover the true results of WGST ratings because although I did move and stopped listening to WGST years ago, the thought that WGST was the best did stick with me subconsciously for years after my childhood! I wonder if they still do their "I wish you a merry Christmas" thing around Christmas and still have the dudalut dudalut dudalut dudalut dudala guy there? I also remember once they did a whole weekend of playing nothing but The Braves Chant Tomahawk music.. possibly around late spring early summer 1993 or 1994. Was that supposed to be a format change? The week following the chants I left for summer vacation in Az and still wasn't quite old enough to know about format changes.

As a matter of fact, I believe I even stuck around wherever Power 99 was for a while after they changed because when I got home from school I (probably) just thought whatever was going on was normal. Now that I think of it, as I've said before, I don't even remember Power 99 officially changing. I just remember one day noticing it "wasn't there anymore". I also remember hearing "foolish heart... you did wrong before" somewhere on the dial and I used to love the song and came home from school every day looking forward to hearing it. I'm pretty sure whatever I was listening to was not V-103 either... Oh, and didn't V-103 at one point play Blackbox and "West end girls" by Pet Shop Boys? I remember those songs used to sound so funny and supernatural to me for some reason.

Anyway, that was my little flashback confused grade school kid moment. I'll get out of the "express yourself / lets talk about sex / it takes two to make a thing go right" days and let you guys get back to present day rhythmic / news talk situations and Bermuda Triangle action.

Not in sales demos...

In an average of the April to June books, KTAR is basically tied for 10th in 25-54 while KFYI is 24th.

Now who is beating whom?

They're a bit late. WGST has been dead for years already.
