news-talk 96.9 "24 hour news room"

I'm glad that 96.9 is running news updates on the hour and half-hour. Having said that, where do these come from? The audio sounds as if they've placed a microphone next to an AM transistor radio speaker.

A lot of WTKK's audio sounds like it's coming in via G.722. I've never heard an FM talk station with such all around crappy audio before. Listen to NJ-101.5 or even WXTK on the Cape to hear the difference.

A couple of weeks ago, I happened to tune in during my morning commute and heard Hank Morse say that he was live from the DNC in North Carolina in the 96-9 24 hour newscenter. Was Hank really in NC, did WTKK really have a 24 hour newscenter there or was he really here at home in the WTKK studio?

Agreed that the quality is horrible.

If you're tuning into a 3-hour show on 96.9, or even part of it, do you really need "news" updates every 15 minutes? Why not go to BZ?

Because WBZ abandons it's news traffic and weather clock a significant amount of time every week.
The updates on WTKK are necessary in this news starved area, I hope they increase the amount of news they have

I second that opinion. WTKK should think about challenging WBZ and bring a true all news station to Boston.

Who gets their news from the radio these days? It's a bad idea to target BZ, to clone them. Radio needs unique content, not what I can glean from Google News in 3 minutes.

btw at 1 pm yesterday WRKO was running ABC news. I know they do local news via metro-shadow or
whatever it's called, but a network newscast at 1 pm on a weekday? They did have local traffic
but that was it, ABC otherwise.

The All News Format is so expensive to do right. I doubt GM would invest in the infrastructure to go all news. They tries doing all news years ago on 1150 and it failed big time. I am happy TKK has beefed up their news content but I don't need traffic reports every fifteen minutes especially in the evening and overnight hours. The Metro News product is not the best. For example, last week they were still reporting on the death of Former Boston City Council President Bruce Bolling two days after he died and the story contained factual errors.

Since TKK began running NECN News in the morning I have switched to WBUR and sometimes never turn on Eagan and Braudie. One of the best parts on BUR, is they don't run traffic reports every 10 minutes.
