News/Talk Battle in Las Vegas...

I

icebreaker

The recent rating are very interesting. Talkers KDWN and KDOX are trending up, as KXNT takes another tumble. Are KXNT listeners sampling the other guys? Beasley has TV and other ads pumping up the new KDWN, and KDOX is doing some marketing as well. Or is News/Talk just on an upswing in Vegas? The floor is open....

Looking at 12+ there is a slight shift away from KXNT and towards KDWN and KDOX. It's all old demos though. In 25-54 KXNT is the only AM that is any kind of a factor. The only exception is PM drive where Michael Savage on KDWN (barely) beats Sean Hannity on KXNT. Even if you put those two shows together it wouldn't make the top 10.

News/Talk is not on an upswing in Vegas. The overall NT share is stable and remains one of the lowest in the nation.

Dosn't make sense. Anybody know of any other Rush/Hannity/Laura stations in the US that barely make the top 10?

It's very unusual but there are a few other markets with N/T shares as low as Las Vegas. They are mostly located in the South such as Birmingham AL and Greensboro NC.

Is kinda surprising in a generally conservative region like Vegas that these News/Talk ratings are low...Maybe it's the variety or lack of it with these 2...Rush & Hannity are the same show, pretty much hard commentary...That's where Glenn Beck used to excel in. He was funny, entertaining, had great skits and commercial parodies. But since he got his TV show on MSNBC, he's more serious, hard news even on the radio..Again I plug Armstrong & Getty on www.talk910knew.com...Funny, entertaining, and topical...just get a better mix of Talk and things might pick up...or maybe it just points to the listener's tastes & sophistication here as being more Southern taste than , say, West Coast taste..not so edgy and satirical but more simple and straightforward.

Re: News/Talk Battle in Las Vegas... kxnt poor news coverage

I was right about this..and kxnt dropped the ball on news coverage as well

Didn't report 13 year old girl kidnapped and raped story til noon...kdwn had the story during morning news including interview with Henderson police chief

Didn't report hit and run - dui accident by major race car driver story at all....this made the national news at least on the sports reports - kdwn had story on morning news (is kxnt getting money from motorsports advertisers? Jack-AM spiked story?)

On a lesser story, Kdwn also had interview with fired Miss Nevada contest winner ...no reporting by kxnt

That's funny, I heard KXNT reporting Al Unser Jr. and his DUI arrest all morning. I also heard the morning show talking about celebs and how they are treated when they get arrested for things like drunk driving. Please have the guts to keep the same name ....Call of the wild, A Aurther, Dwtylandry......your posts are very transparent.

I have two versacorders hooked to Art Bell "crank" radios (solar powered) one set to kxnt and one to kdwn, and I didn't catch the reporting you speak of....why were they late with kidnap story, JACK? ...I also noticed Alan Stock was saying Scientologists were "nuts"...then the famous person's daughter says "well some people say the Mormon religion is strange" .... then the whole subject was quickly dropped when they came back from the commercial break....Did someone step on a third rail of taboo topics??? Jack???

why did Michael Winer change his name to savage? If Adolf Hitler said: "2 + 2 = 4", would it be something else, like 6? because he said it.... who cares what phoney name someone uses on the internet...bottom line many people said Vegas was a bad market for radio news....now there are a number of stations involved....You don't know who reported what when, I do because I have it on tape....

I like your posts...now that they are missing...they don't know what I was talking about....but you see I know what I hear and I know what I like...it is that simple...

Do any of you people remember a talk show host whos name was billy goodman

He called his show the billy goodman happening and his main topic was area 51.

His name came up recenty as Art Bell mentioned when he did political talk overnight on KDWN he would be listening to Billy Goodman on 840 which was then KVEG and this gave him the idea of trying out the paranormal subjects on his show and we all know how this evolved. I recall Goodman was on between 10pm-1am and the station was a mostly MOR music format in its early days as this station did not exist until 1987 or 1988. I guess Art listened to him on his way to work. Billy Goodman now lives in his home state of Rhode Island and up till last week was running for mayor of North Providence when he dropped out of race.

I heard Jim Dallas and Shawn Osbourne last Saturday Night... Beasley may want to think about more of that kind of live talk radio instead of repeating the same syndicated BS 3-4 times every weekend. Oh, and not to mention to colon cleansing programs during the week.. Really makes me want to tune back in.
