Rick Outzen wrote a nice piece about Luke McCoy's final day, Friday, December 19th, with Cumulus and WCOA - News Talk 1370 in Pensacola. He also points out just how much live/local content has disappeared off our local dial this year.
I believe that Luke McCoy's commentary had a major impact on local politics. Weather you liked his views or not, he made people think. I'm still holding on to a little strand of hope that he's not really retiring from radio but instead jumping to another station. It's unlikely anyone will ever come close to replacing him and local talk is dying faster than I could have ever imagined 6 months ago.
From "McCoy and the White Boy" to "Pensacola Speaks", Luke had one of the few voices that we will miss. :'(
Here's a link to the article about McCoy's exit on a local Pensacola blog, be sure to check out Mike Bates' surprisingly kind comments. I didn't think he had it in him.
