KDAC-1230 in Fort Bragg and KLLK-1250 in Willits used to be news/talk but both stations are now regional Mexican. There is public broadcasting station KZYX, which you can hear online at http://www.kzyx.org/ but, other than that, there is indeed a "sizable format hole" for news/talk in Mendocino County. You'll have to get on your rooftop late at night with a radio with a tall antenna and try to get KSRO from Santa Rosa, KKSF from Oakland, or KGO or KSFO from San Francisco.
I actually wouldn't be too surprised if KGO could be heard in this area during the day as well. But if KINS can be successful in Eureka (more successful than the more liberal talker at 1480 KGOE) than I think a traditional news/talker would work in Mendocino. At least more so than a Regional Mexican trimulcast...
Perhaps, but wouldn't it at least bring in more than regional mexican? Because even if there is a somewhat sizable listener base, how many businesses in a place like Ft. Bragg or Ukiah would consider buying ads en espanol?
