News/Talk in Terre Haute

With WIBC-FM (or whatever the call-sign of the moment is) cannot be picked up in Terre Haute, where will that 1 share that WIBC currently has go?

WLS?

Of course, ESPN 1070 will have a better signal than the Crossroads ESPN simulcast does...

Anybody likely to pick up N/T? I'm doubtful, unless WTHI-AM gets away from Religion.

I've heard so time ago that Midwest's WPRS AM-1440 was going to flip to n/t. Also that they were trying to find a way to penetrate into Terre Haute at night. WTHI HI-99 is the ONLY station in Terre Haute that you can depend on local news. Crossroads dumped local news from TV-2 when they fired meteorologist Julie Hendricks, who just happens to work late mornings at WBOW.

Whoa, when'd that happen? I heard Julie doing weather on Crock in mid-October, and I thought she said something about channel 2 at that time...

I'm not sure. I heard all this from a friend of mine who lives in Terre Haute. She said that she saw Julie on a Friday on TV-2 and on Monday Dan Reynolds, the weekend guy was in her slot. The Tribune Star in Terre Haute doesn't have a media reporter, so much of what happens goes unnoticed, unless it's a format flip. She guesses it's been about 4 to 5 weeks since Julie departed, and is now working full time at Crossroads.

Who the heck can pick up WIBC in Terre Haute? When I lived there, I could sort of get it if I drove on SR 46, but anywhere west of there, hang it up.

Mobilene, I seem to pick-up WIBC ok when I'm in Terre Haute. I can even hear the BUZZ on the adjacent 1060, and 1080 quite well too. Given some days are better than others and I do have a decent radio in my Jeep.

I heard it a good hour into Illinois in September...and there will be occasions I wish WIBC stayed on 1070 rather than 93.1, but overall, I am looking forward to being able to hear WIBC during dark hours.

The standard-issue Delco radio in my old '89 Chevy must not have been very good, then!

Things are "a-muck" in "Terry-Hut"..... ;D

How about an FM talker in Terre Haute. I heard from someone recently that it's been kicked around. I remember Mark Edwards and Ronn Mott had a great show "Open Line" on 1230-WBOW in the late 80's. You have to have at least one good local show.

The old talk show on WBOW/1230/640 was with Mark Edweards and Taylor Brown,. NOT Ronn Mott. Tracy Marshall also did an early afternoon talk show called newsmakers on a daily basis. Taylor Brown had a big voice and was one of 3 WBOW newsmen.

There aren't enough FM signals in TH to allow for an FM talker.

When Open Line was on the air, Taylor Brown was just the midday DJ at WBOW. After Mike Rice's arrest, as costs started to be cut, Mark Edwards got cut first, and then Dan Reynolds moved to ND and they hired Brenda Nelson, a woman right out of school, to do afternoon newscasts. Then Reynolds got the boot, and Brown was made ND. Brenda left and Chris Collins replaced her.

Rush Limbaugh actually replaced Open Line before any of the cuts started happening, IIRC.

Edwards, Brown, and Reynolds all ended up at WTWO; Edwards as ND I think, Brown doing weekend anchoring for a short time, and Reynolds of course with his durable weather gig.

Thanks for the correction, I was at ISU back then and I use to love listening to them. Edwards I hear is at ISU, and Brown is still boradcastin in am 1580 in Washington, IN and Reynolds is doing weather at WTWO TV-2. Mott is doing mornings at WAXI. Anyone know where Tracy Marshall went to?
