News Talk On 92.5 FM

I'm starting to hear talk about talk on 92.5 fm. Could this still be a big money making format for a Tampa Bay Fm?

Great idea! Newstalk on FM in Tampa Bay. Who owns the signal, when are they firing it up? FM talkers have been unbelievably successful in some markets.

WXTK 95 FM on Cape Cod is one shining example, it quickly shot to #1 after its launch in 1991 and now maintains unheard-of arbitron ratings in the teens - or - Talk FM can die a quick death like WOW-FM in Detroit which hit the air in 1994 and was back to music less than a year later.

One note of interest; WXTK-FM signed syndicated talkers like Rush Limbaugh, WOW-FM went with all local personalities. What's that tell us?

I thought Boss Limbough just called for Honduras to invade our country and change the government. Sure need that on FM.

CBS. It's currently Spanish. CBS doesn't have the rights to any talk show that you've ever heard of for the Tampa Bay market.

CBS has given up with their FM talk formats since all their "Live" and "Free-FM" stations tanked all over the country. I think CBS has turned that page and is now on the AMP/NOW kick. Now if you had said CBS Tampa Bay was thinking about Mainstream or Adult (to steer clear of WLLD) Top 40. Then I might believe you.

Well, gee, cbsrocks, given your handle and the subjects of most of your previous posts, you've been hearing quite a lot...

Besides, if a CBS station is going to flip in this market... wouldn't it be WSJT?

I don't believe this about 92.5 for a second. NO WAY is CBS gonna invest in building a News/Talk FM from scratch. If anyone is gonna do News/Talk on the FM it's gonna be WFLA on 100.7 or 97.9. Now, if you were to tell me they're gonna flip either 92 or 94 to an adult CHR like RMarino has suggested, I'd bite... but I as well see that happening on 94 before 92 anyway.

As far as sports with a shift of the talent from 1010... possible, but they just don't have the rights or network affiliations to make it work. Without ESPN, FOX, or any of the local teams to lean on, it would be a very expensive endeavor and one they're probably not gonna embark on a prime signal like 94.1.

For once I tend to agree with NT. WWBA doesn't seem to be able to get close to 970. I don't know that it was obvious at the time that FM talk on WPGB in Pittsburgh could really hurt heritage talker KDKA. WPGB was able to get Premier Property Rush Limbough off KDKA. I think that made a difference. That seems to indicate that FM talk could work in a smaller market than Tampa Bay if you got a marquee name.

SEE

1) No sarcasm

2) No politics

3) CC is given it's due

Think NT will still find a reason to critique me?
