News/Talk on FM coming to Baton Rouge

From the Daily Report:

Guaranty Broadcasting will change the format on at least one of its local radio stations next month. "We’re getting out of alternative rock and into news talk," says Gordy Rush, market manager. "It’s going to happen in a couple of stages." Guaranty owns five stations, including 104.9 KNXX, an alternative rock station; 107.3 WYPY, a classic country station; and 100.7 WTGE, a new country station. Guaranty has been beefing up its local programming lately, luring Louis Miller’s popular Saturday morning gardening show from WRKF to 107.3 earlier this month. "There’s more to come," Rush says.

Let the speculation begin.

And with Baton Rouge being the capital city of Louisiana, maybe the news/talker can give themselves a catchy nickname like, oh, I don't know, The Capital.

Well now what highly rated local personallity is coming to FM ...........................hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :)

That's why Moon Griffon was hinting at being on in Baton Rouge soon, I wonder? Also, a guy broadcasting from Texas occupying evening drive on JBO. REALLY?!?! ???

It aint Moon :) Well what was that president in 1962......................................

Technically if you have digital HD radio, WFMF 102.5HD2 is WJBO FM

But I'm waiting on them to buy a translator in town....

Now it's to see if Citadel will flip Gen X like most of them are now going..

CC doesnt have anything to flip. Translator would have to be what they did. I know of no friends of mine here with an HD radio. Most people dont even know what it is. I dont know about 103.3 flipping. I know I cant listen to it! But I cant see 3 FM talkers in one town!

With Guaranty moving in the news talk direction, a translator I'm sure is coming for CC. By, the way where's Kennedy the last two weeks? This morning was Meeks and Clay Walker.

He left. Guaranty says they'd like to talk to him after his non-compete is up.

And I thought CC bought a translator in the BR area recently?

I know 103.7 was religious and now its just dead air..so is 97.3..

But shouldn't it be "Capitol" and not "Capital"?

The Capitol is just the government building that house the legislature and governor's office. They probably went with Capital because capital not only means the seat of the state government, but also the entire city of Baton Rouge.

Last day of 'The X' :'(

I wonder if anyone will try to fill the void or if 92.3 will win in BR by default, also I wonder if 93.7 will target BR more, especially with the pending COL change to Zachary.
Whats so crazy is that most Alt rockers are doing so good in PPM markets.

I haved loved 104 the X for quite some time but have always been frustrated with their crappy signals. Whether it was 104.5 (before the ESPN switch) or 104.9, I would regularly lose the signal right in the heart of Baton Rouge. Young listeners won't deal with that - just resort to their iPods or satellite.
Since 93.7 & 92.3 are both owned by Citadel - soon to be Cumulus, I would suspect they will use 93.7 to target BR.
Guaranty won't do any better with whatever they put on 104.9 (talk or move a country) cause listeners will tune away unless they improve their signal.

104.9 will be country. 107.3 will be news talk in a few weeks. Until then 107.3 and 104.9 will be country legends. And new music starts tomorrow night on 98.1...but how much? Who knows?

Flip according to yes.com was at 5am

Neon Trees - Animal was last song as the X at 5:05, The Bellamy Brothers - For All The Wrong Reasons was first song under new format at 5:22am
