News(Talk)Radio 106.7

So, The last few days while out and about I have been surfing the radio. I flipped on 106.7 and was shocked that Kimmer was on vacation(actually happy about that part of it) and Pete Davis was not filling in! Instead there was the typical, generic talk show host. Now I am wondering why. Is this a trial for the new guy( chip, chad, something with a C I think) for either another show or as a replacement? If anyone deserves his own show, its Pete. Actually, I think that my dream radio show would be a Mark Arum and Pete Davis combo show. That would be entertaining!

Chip Franklin, formerly of WBAL/Baltimore and KOGO/San Diego, does vacation relief for talk stations. This could also be a tryout for KGO in San Francisco, since he is based in California.

Pete Davis would make a great morning host as he was the substitute host for Tom "The King" Hughes at WGST. Pete and morning anchor John Lisk would almost be reminiscent of the days of Tom Hughes and Harry Beadle.

Pete may also be considered for the evening host when the Braves season is over. Right now, WYAY has either Michael Graham or a host from another Cumulus station doing the evening show when the Braves have a night off.

I have never listened to nighttime 106.7 since the change, so I wouldn't know about that. A long time ago, Pete used to have a night time show on WGST. It was pretty good. Some local politics and events mixed in with humor and current non news events. Nothing to racy or preachy(unlike the Kimmer sometimes). Great entertainment to listen to on the way home from work.

How long has The Kimmer been back? Has it been a year? Does someone with 'new time' at a new job get vacation time so quick? Not to mention all those sick days he was out within his first few weeks backs.

I never had 'off time' so quick on a new job.

Something, IMO, smells 'fishy'..like more than the fact Kimmer has gone fishing.

yeah, nothing unusual about vacation time so soon. It was probably agreed upon during negotiations. As for the sick days, that is what they were -sick days. does not have anything to do with vacation. It would really make his bosses look bad if they said sorry you missed time because of the heart attack, so no other time off. Besides, he brought them a new advertising client--North Fulton Hospital!

Continuous Cummulus Calamities

Cloud Heads continue to monkey around with things and just can't get anything right.

TOC was just fine; and, yes, I understand the contract problem with Shannon, but why screw around with the playlist and add '70's music! Haven't yet found a person who still really "digs" Disco and "old school rap." The music was fine before, and is moderately tolerable now. Just hope they go mixing in too much of the "recent hits."

As for AN1067 (now I suppose it is NEWS1067) certainly do miss them in the middle of the day and the overnight. Thought at one time it would be neat to work for them as an editor or writer, but now would be just so boring with nothing to do.

And has anyone paid attention to the bump music for John Batchelor? I honestly thought I'd stumbled into an obituary reading! Boy, that will sure pump you up?

From my scant listening in the morning drive, their "story repeat" cycle is getting a bit short, too. Used to you could go about 2 hours without a duplication of sound bite or content, but now is running closer to about 75 minutes. What's the matter, writers/editors getting tired? Tired of doing what?

Any evaluations of the likely very liberal 88.5 programming?

Excuse me, but I'm not seeing a thread for that on the listing. The last post related to this is dated 5/18/2014. Is it perhaps on a different board?

The dumping of TOC was a big F.U. to Shannon for "retiring" from a Cumulus station and then popping up again crosstown at CBS.

I do agree, though, 98.9 needs to carry Westwood One's newer classic hits format. Jack would be even better (doesn't ABC/Cumulus have the rights to Jack?)
