News transitions on John and Ken

What was up with the news transitions on John and Ken today? Every time John would go to Shannon, he would "preview" the first story ("I see you're going to talk about blah blah blah", "That's right, John", etc.). They would do this even at the top of the hour, forgoing station identification and the station's theme music. Is this a new thing? Have they been doing it on other shows on KFI?

KSL (Utah's miniature version of KFI and KNX) started doing that with Doug Wright's show. I bet there's a PPM consultant going around, who finally made it to Robin and Greg's offices.

OC Weekly reports the latest advertiser to bail on J&K is the LA Angels of Anaheim.

Did they mention any of J&K's new advertisers or is this just another hack media story that doesn't provide both sides?

they used to script the banter between the traffic guy and the hosts as well. some people do not like the sounders that sound like a junk yard

first of all, provide a link if you're
going to make a quote like that.

secondly, the angels were never advertising on John an Ken.

Thirdly, that has nothing to do with what was being discussed here.

Junkyard? LOL! I love the sounders! It sounds edgy and exciting:

"KFI! [dun dun DUH] Los Angeles ... Orange County [swoosh] News on the hour [DUN DUN DUN] on the half [DUN DUN] and when it breaks [EXPLOSION .... Ratt's "Round and Round"] ;D Rock on!

I bet you're right. PPM kills talk radio formats - stations are making every tweak possible to try and get the numbers back up.

the new transitions clearly are not working. it's very awkward to hear John talking about 1 topic then stopping short to try to awkwardly introduce the first news story.

I predict we will start hearing the regular ID's again very soon.

those clever IDs are part of KFI's identity.

whoever writes them, (Neil Savedra I Believe) deserves a raise. dumping them only dilutes the strong identity that k f

It seems they are only using the "Today's date: KFI!" id stingers in between shift changes. I heard Bill Carroll do the awkward pass to Chris Little for TOH news in the 2:00 hour and then at 3:00 when John & Ken take over the KFI id stinger came on instead of a pass to Shannon Ferrin.

I love the KFI TOH ids, especially the throwback one with Earl C. Anthony giving out the call letters.

I love it when stations salute their heritage... especially when they're heritage stations ;D

The KRTH ID with Bill Drake is a pleasure when it comes over, too.

If KFI was really celebrating their heritage, they would go back to "This is 50,000 watt clear channel* Kay-Eff-Eyyyyyyeee, Los Angeles, an Earle C. Anthony station."

Used to hear that at the top of the hour during Dodgers games in the 60s - Sandy Koufax - Don Drysdale era.

* original meaning of "clear channel."

You win the Internet, HerbNero.
Those awkward tosses from the show host to the newsreader have all ready been scrubbed across the board and the KFI TOH sounders every hour are back in place.
