news transmitters

I'm surprised no one has mentioned---WDYT is using its new 25K transmitter. Here in Indian Land, the signal still is poor, as I predicted. Also, WGSP-FM has moved to its new transmitter near Monroe, with decent reception at this location. WGSP has apparently broken away from its AM and is airing what sounds like automated regional Mexican.

I am still receiving that interference all over the east side (University area) of Charlotte when trying to listen to 1220 WDYT. I did not know they had jumped to 25kw already, as I had asked them via their website a couple of wks ago and they were operating at only at 6kw at their new site (at that time). If they are at full power now, they are not as strong as they should be over Charlotte as the interference is killing me...and on 2 different car radios. Please tell me it will get better than this.

I picked them up fine in Matthews but as I got closer to Charlotte (Southpark area), the more interference I got. Not overly impressed with the station, it's a pure clone of WBT.

That couldn't be farther from the truth! They don't sound anything like WBT. Jon Robinson and the morning show are terrific. I can't tell you how many people have said that they are a breath of fresh air to Charlotte. They are not scripted like WBT, they sound real and the guest they get are awesome!

I'm in town for NAB this week, and I have to say, WDYT is one of the better-sounding stations I've heard lately as far as News Talk goes. The imaging is great, and everything is tight. I caught Danny's Money Talk program this afternoon and enjoyed it...I even learned something. I haven't listened to WBT lately so I can't compare the two. All in all, I think WDTY is MUCH better than some of the crap that populates the AM side in Charlotte these days.

WDYT does sound pretty good! They're lining up some pretty impressive guests on the morning show. (Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, an Army major from Baghdad, etc).

Jon Robinson seems to be a bit "over the top" as a conservative, flag-waving, right winger telling each of the above guests while concluding their interview that "we'll pray for you". You don't usually hear most conservative talk hosts go that far.

Is it real or is Jon faking it trying to build some notoriety and ratings?

He's clearly faking it. In my earlier post, I just meant that they were going after the same audience as WBT. Jon Robinson is way over the top, but I would much rather listen to him that Al Gardner and Stacy Simms.

On that point we can agree.  Al Gardner is in a whole 'nother league!  He likes to tell us that he's a "newsman", but what real newsman do you know that shills for everyone from dentists, car dealers, gutter systems, restaurants, hearing aids, etc.

Now his new favorite car dealer is Hendrick Cadillac and his new favorite restaurant is 131 Main.  I wonder what happened to the Buick dealer and the  restaurant at the Arboretum that he used claim were the best.

Must be their contracts ran out! I guess Al's love is for sale. And, what does that make Al?

I don't much care for Caddies...but 131 Main is pretty darn good. Sherlock, you're probably right- the contract\trade ran out.
