Newsmax plots expansion to Germany, Italy, Greece as part of international push

Not sure how Newsmax would operate in those countries given their attention to Trump Media in its home country and also Newsmax had a deal with Truth Social here in the US.

Cable news outlet Newsmax is launching localized versions of its channel in several more countries this year, bringing the Newsmax brand to Germany, Italy, Greece and a handful of other markets through partnerships with other broadcasters and TV distributors.

In a press release on Tuesday, Newsmax said it expects to earn around $25 million in international-related revenue this year, with $16 million of that income accountable to licensing agreements connected to the Newsmax name.

Newsmax said localized versions of its channel will soon be available in Germany, Italy, Greece, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Hungary, with broadcast partners and distributors making local-language variants of its cable news outfit available to viewers in those markets. The Ukrainian channel was announced earlier this year, and the company already operates localized versions of its channel in Poland and Serbia.

International carriage of Newsmax and brand licensing deals for localized versions of the channel are becoming a more-important part of the company’s revenue model. Last month, Newsmax said it earned $43.7 million in broadcast-related income, some of which was directly attributable to its foreign licensing agreements.

I was struck by the following paragraph taken from the article:

"“While the industry is lapping unusually high election-driven news consumption from early 2025, our first quarter rankings demonstrate that Newsmax continues to perform strongly in a more normalized environment,” Christopher Ruddy, the founder and CEO of Newsmax, said in a statement last month. “We are also making further strides as a global news brand and continuing to attract unique viewers that reinforce the significant opportunity we see in the underserved, center-right market.”"

Frankly, I've never considered Newsmax to be anything other than a far-right channel in the U.S. And I don't see it gaining much traction among the center either in the U.S. or Europe. And I have to think that Ukraine is allowing Newsmax to enter its country in order to curry favor with the Trump Administration vis-a-vis weapons in its ongoing war with Russia.

There is a far-right movement in all of those countries, so there will be viewers.
