Newsradio?

I find it odd that when I go to WBEN's website to see the latest local news stories, the only stories listed since Friday afternoon are:

1) Sabres beat Carolina, and
2) Sabres beat Toronto.

News?

For a team that might not even make the playoffs, I find it somewhat sad that this is all the local news added over the weekend.

Don't have reporters on the street over the weekend? Why not re-write a newspaper story, read it on air and post it online. At least LOOK like you're trying.

For anyone who has any misconceptions about the state and legitimacy of this market's 24 hour radio newscoverage (espeically on weekends), I think this might put things in perspective.

That probably tells you about one of two things; 1)the editorial priorities of the webmaster, or 2)what some consultant said web site readers wanted to know most.

I happened to catch a couple of Allan Harris' newscasts over the weekend, and his local news budget was a LOT broader than the rewrite of WGR they seem to be offering on the WBEN website.

The over-the-air product of this and most other stations is almost invariably a lot wider and deeper in content than the few headlines a website is likely to offer, at WBEN and just about any other news/talker you'll find. I don't know why web content is so much more superficial than the on-air newscasts as a rule, but that seems to be the norm these days.

Well, if that's the case, I suggest they consult the Buffalo News website to get a feel for what NEWS might be happening in the area at any given moment, vs. WGR, where ALL you're going to read about is sports.

Seems like a no-brainer.
