"Newsroom culture clash" at CBS News

I see it will be running on Saturday evening -- the lowest rated evening of the week for network television. My suspicion is that it won't chap many CBS viewers for the simple reason that almost no one will be watching.

I agree. My take is it's an audition. She's never hosted a TV show before. This is a way to see how she tests.

Most people work their way up to this point. She didn't. She cut to the front of the line. This is part of the process.

This will chap a lot of CBS viewers.
Unlikely. It's not like CBS has an icon like Cronkite on the air. I don't think most viewers care who does the interview as long as whomever conducting it does a good job. Weiss is not new to media. She'll likely do very well.

I doubt most CBS viewers know who Erika Kirk even is.

So now we've resorted to name calling:

I guess he won't be anchoring the Evening News.

Erika Kirk is making the rounds, talking to everybody. I doubt there will be much she hasn't said by the time she gets to Bari Weiss.

Bari Weiss's TV debut on Saturday came in 3rd for the time period.

The NY Post was less than complimentary about the broadcast:

The special, which aired at 8 p.m. on Saturday, averaged 1.5 million viewers — a whopping 20% decline in viewers compared to the year-to-date average for the hour, which previously was airing a third hour of “48 Hours,” according to preliminary Nielsen ratings data released Tuesday.

The audience numbers were comparable to similar programs on that day. She didn't fail the audition. As a result, CBS News plans to have more town halls like this in the future.

She could have bombed and not failed the audition. She’s in charge.

This article states it was actually a 41 percent decline in 25-54 -- just 265,000 (!) in the advertising demo when Nielsen released its final numbers Tuesday afternoon.

Very possible. Until Kirk was shot, I did not know who he was, much less what his positions were.
