"Newsroom culture clash" at CBS News

There are reports that CBS is inviting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner.

Quote from this report:

“Hegseth’s tenure leading the Defense Department has included a robust effort to prevent leaks to the media, including the ouster of three top officials last year over alleged leaks and new Pentagon press guidelines that led scores of media outlets — including CBS News — to walk out of the building in October. (A federal judge ruled those guidelines were illegal last month in a lawsuit brought by the New York Times.)”

This report says it’s not clear whether Hegseth has or will accept the invitation.

(Due to an issue with my iPad, I wasn’t able to italicize the quoted text)

Hegseth appeared on 60 Minutes a few weeks ago, interviewed by Major Garrett. It's possible that Major is inviting him.

I've been to this dinner a few times myself. It's a formal affair at the Washington Hilton. One of the few times I wore a tux. It's a charity event. The president was once invited by NBC during the Obama years. It's when Obama insulted him. As a result the president hasn't returned until now.

I’ve been in conferences and meetings at the Washington Hilton. You’d probably need a tux just to stay warm considering how they blast the air conditioning in there.

I suspect some members of that association might find something better to do that evening. I sure would.

I’ve never worn a tux in my life. Can’t imagine being part of any social scene that would require that. Seems that’s something only rich people do. Does that make me an oddball?

The feeling is probably mutual. Given Hegseth's animosity for the Washington press corps, he might choose to stay home too.

As I said, this is a charity fundraiser, so they are targeting rich people in order to raise money.

Unless he sends one of his generals ahead in an advance party to check for whoopee cushions.

One of the great things about the Bay Area was that you could never tell someone’s wealth by the way they dressed.

No tuxes here, either. It’s just another form of drag.

Here is the everyday issues surrounding CBS news this time from within management.

I listened to the male voice that comes before Deborah Rodriguez. He says, after the hour tone and the music, "CBS News on the hour, home of original reporting".
But only if it’s not sold. I’ve noticed you might hear “original reporting” over the air and a sponsor on SiriusXM 124 (POTUS) for the same hour. Or vice versa.

Meanwhile, ABC News extends its ratings lead over NBC and CBS.

In fairness, Muir's been anchoring ABC News for more than a few years, Llamos for less than a year, but Tony's only been there a few months. It takes viewers a long time to get comfortable with a news anchor, and once they are it takes a jolt to get them to go shopping for a new one.

That explains a lot about a lot of your posts.
