Update State of California AG reviews the US DOJ approval of Paramount and WB merger. Yes the antitrust issues are the concern here. I can see this ending in a courtroom in Downtown Sacramento in the same way the Nexstar/Tegna lawsuit over their merger and antitrust issues in the allegations. Yes California AG Rob Bonta is mentioned as the lead attorney general with states like New York joining with AG Bonta over the deal.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has been reviewing the transaction and could still sue to block the deal despite federal regulators signing off.

“The merger of Warner Bros and Paramount remains under investigation by the California Department of Justice,” said a spokesperson for Bonta’s office.

In a letter to Bonta last month, Paramount Chief Legal Officer Makan Delrahim urged California not to challenge the transaction, arguing that the deal is pro-competitive because it would create a stronger rival to Netflix while expanding theatrical releases and investment in film production.

Representatives for roughly half a dozen state attorneys general, including Bonta and New York Attorney General Letitia James, listened in on the meeting between Ellison and DOJ officials.

"Hi will get more truthful information from Trixie's incoherent babbling then he will from any network news broadcast. "

Justin Webb mentioned as a candidate to join CBS News.

EXCLUSIVE: Bari Weiss‘ interest in British journalists extends beyond CBS News‘ surprise hire of Sky News presenter Trevor Phillips, according to UK industry sources.

Weiss has spent time in London in recent months, where she has met with other presenters as she considers CBS News and The Free Press’ operations outside of the U.S.

Deadline hears that Weiss has had lunch with Justin Webb, the longtime BBC journalist, who hosts Radio 4’s Today show and the Americast podcast.

Although no specific job was on the table for Webb, sources said Weiss has expressed an interest in the UK market and is keen to meet with journalists she considers free thinkers.

Heres more on Bari Weiss recent hires.

CBS News boss Bari Weiss is continuing her rapid remake of the network, hiring Daily Mail reporter Josh Boswell and veteran ABC News producer Cho Park for the network’s investigative unit while expanding her recruiting efforts overseas.

CBS News announced Tuesday that Boswell and Park will join the network’s I-Team, bolstering a division that Weiss has aggressively expanded since taking over as editor-in-chief in October.

The hires come days after CBS News tapped British broadcaster Sir Trevor Phillips as senior global affairs correspondent.

Again this is if WB and Paramount deal is finalized. Also its all part of a long running rumor on when Bari Weiss takes over CNN.

Paramount Skydance is set to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, meaning it will own CNN. That doesn’t work for Kara Swisher, who plans to depart CNN as soon as she can.

What We Know: It is not the first time Kara Swisher has mentioned her intention to leave CNN. Earlier this year, she shared that she “refused” to work for Larry and David Ellison. At the time, she called Larry Ellison a “terrible person”. Currently, she serves as a contributor to the network. She also hosted a weekend show called Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever. In a recent podcast episode with Scott Galloway, she reiterated her plans to exit CNN as soon as possible.

Her time at CNN is likely limited. I'm sure she has other opportunities she could monetize to an extent, say a podcast and Substack, but lucrative contracts with networks are becoming scarce.

I doubt current management would give her any kind of buyout ahead of the merger.

There's a greater-than-zero chance that Tony's MS-NOW wife is now with MS-NOW, rather than NBC News, specifically because he's now Bari's guy.

(Anybody follow that? ;))
