"Newsroom culture clash" at CBS News

The networks are doing prime time specials for the 4th of July. NBC will do it's annual Macy's show from New York harbor. ABC will be in Nashville.

CBS will be in Washington DC, with a special hosted by CBS News anchor Tony Dokoupil:

CBS will host a primetime special celebrating America's 250th birthday on Saturday, July 4, with exclusive performances and the largest fireworks show in history.

The description says they will also broadcast from Philadelphia and LA. They say they will carry the DC fireworks. No mention about the president's political rally speech that precedes the fireworks. In my opinion, it would be a bad decision to carry the speech. But we'll see what they do.

Those staffers... or ex-staffers... fail to recognize that CNN was way behind the the most important video sources, ranked around 14th depending on the month in a rank of all OTA networks and cable channels,.

What are your criteria for saying this, David? Total eyeballs? In-demo viewers? Revenue? Giving you the spin you want to hear?

Mine are accuracy, speed and objectivity, in that order. And on those measures CNN does very well. (Almost as good as NPR, though their pictures can only be viewed inside your head.)
