FCC Sez No To Newsweb Chicago City-Of-License-Change Bid

NEWSWEB's application to change the cities of license of two of its CHICAGO market stations has been rejected by the FCC. NEWSWEB sought to change the city of license of AIR AMERICA RADIO affiliate Talk WCPT-A from CRYSTAL LAKE. IL to ADDISON, IL and brokered Talk WNDZ-A from PORTAGE, IN to CALUMET CITY, IL; the FCC rejected the moves because CRYSTAL LAKE and PORTAGE would lose their only allocations.

Will this same thing happen with nelson desire to move 1480 from Geneva to Millbrook? Geneva has no other licensed stations.

Since the 1480 transmitter site is gone will that be enough of a reason to allow the move at the FCC?

Losing a transmitter site seems to carry more weight with the FCC than simply a desire to move closer to the nearby big city. But the FCC is still going to want to keep the city of license the same if possible. This makes it possible for everyone to pretend that the station is actually serving the city of license rather than the actual metro area that it's really hoping to cover.

In the past, if it has become impossible to serve the city of license because of a lack of a viable transmitter site, then the FCC has been more open to moving to a new city of license. But then it becomes a Major Change instead of a Minor Change, and that becomes time consuming and expensive.

They filed it in a major change window. I hope they don't get the change nelson has enough stations. Geneva would be better served with a daytimer than millbrook in the nelson group. I can't believe he's going to built it anyhow 4 towers during the day and 3 at night. Only one is shared between the arrays. He must be building the towers in his own black smith shop and putting them up in his back yard.
Edited by Link on 11/05/05 09:00 PM.
