Newsy to launch as free Over-the-Air network

Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP) will soon launch its popular over-the-top (OTT) national news network Newsy over the air (OTA).
...
At its launch on Oct. 1, Newsy will be available over the air in at least 80% of U.S. television homes – and in all major markets – carried primarily by Scripps-owned ION stations and select Scripps local television stations and those of other station groups.

I want Newsy to be successful. But it seems like it's a news station that is afraid of being too, excuse the pun, newsy? I understand, it's trying to appeal to younger viewers. Good.

But I think that means dumbing down the product. And it seems to be done cheaply. Too often, I see B-roll and still photos when stories are being delivered. If it's a story about the economy, drag out the B-roll of dollar bills being printed. If it's about the military, roll the stock footage of troops marching or running on an obstacle course.

I have been watching Newsy on Roku and C-Band Satellite (101 W) since last November.

Of course it's done cheaply. At one time, network news was done cheaply. Then they had big hits in prime time, and so now they have budgets.

What I focus on is the writing. Is the writing clear, concise, comprehensive? The three Cs. That's all that matters. The part of Newsy I find bad is the delivery. The people who read the script sound like they're reading. That's bad, but it could be fixed.
