Newy and the Fan part ways

Highest rated on a poorly rated station...isn't that like saying, out of all the aid patients, you have the least amount of aids? Does it really mean much?

In all seriousness, Tim Collins needs to get his head out of his butt and program this disaster better...the longest tenured talent has just jumped ship, weeks after the previous LT'd contract wasn't renewed.

They're reverting back to their early days when every quarter the talent was completely different than the previous qtr.

Sounds like its about time to flip the fan..... Ahhhh, I remember the glory days of KLLI "the alternative talk station." ;)

I heard Newy and his wife are expecting a baby sometime soon. He may have just gotten tired of working a double everyday. Oh well. I like the new morning show, and Josh/Elf are pretty good, so this doesn't sting all that much.

Newy says to a fan in reply to a "wall post" on his Facebook page:

"Wife is happy. She's due in July and wants some help."

So this would kind of add to Corby's theory of Newy working less hours to help with the wife around the house. In fact, the general topic of discussion on his wall gradually generated from talk of the Cowboy's ninth-overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, to the news that he's leaving KRLD-FM.

Ugh. Not a fan of the 'New School' show. Seems so much 'in your face' and less conversational. Now with Newy gone, which is a good decision on his part I believe since the station is slowly falling farther in the ratings, we have another hour of 'New School'.

Is it bad that I miss Jagger and Henson with Jasmine? Now she seems like a third wheel. No where near as engaged in the conversation, more like the token sports girl.

"We got another PD a few months ago. Three different visions since 2009 shows 105.3 The Fan never had a chance to win. Too many changes. No show ever got a full year on the station. You can't gain momentum if all you do is change people and shifts."

For a TV guy Newy has a good grasp of what doesn't work in the radio business.

Newy explains it all on his website...

That is definitely worth a read. It critical but fair and honest, which makes it unusual.

I've long been a Dale Hansen fan and for years made a point to watch his Sunday night show after Cowboys games. A couple years back, I stumbled across Newy's program on channel 5. It took a bit of time for me to get used to since I'm a creature of habit. But the chemistry he has on that show got me hooked. I never thought anything could break the long-held Hansen habit but Newy Scruggs did it.

Norm on KTCK was (and still is) the first choice for me in the 10-12 slot. But, when Newy was on opposite on KRLD-FM, I did listen on occasion. He was the only host on there that captured my interest. The fellow on at night is way too Gen-Y for my tastes. Now that Scruggs is gone, it's back to KTCK for 100% of my sports radio listening.

That's just one person's (and out of the demo at that) opinion.

Newy Scruggs was the sole reason I switched on the Fan. With him gone I'm off to greener pastures. I wish him well.
