Friday of next week will be the deadline for the top 4 affls in the largest 100 markets to have full power DTV transmitters. Since Nexstar is so hostle to DTV in general, what are the chances of all of its affected stations compling or will there be stalling at the last minute.

Your thoughts????

It looks like Nexstar only has 10 affected stations, and according to their website 9 of them already broadcast a digital signal. The other station is in Evansville, IN (market 99). Nexstar may ask for an extension on that one, since they bought it about 18 months ago.<P ID="signature">______________

Hostile?
Both Nexstar run stations in Lubbock Texas broadcast in HDTV full time.

What you have to consider is how much it costs to maintain an HDTV signal in small markets. There is less money in places like this to maintain even the regular equipment full time, and now they have to worry about HDTV too? Don't forget, Nexstar's stations are mostly in small to medium sized markets, where this is less people wathcing, fewer experienced engineers, and alot less money to throw around.

But legally, they'll be fine by the deadline.

The July 1, 2005 requires Big 4 stations in top 100 markets to either build the full digital facility if it intends to keep its current digital channel, or serve 100% of the coverage population with its current channel if it plans to move back to its analog channel. Most Nexstar facilities are operating with minimum facilities that don't meet either requirement.

For example, WBRE in Wilkes-Barre picked it current digital channel (11) for its final channel. In order to comply with the law, the full facility must be built by July 1. That probably isn't going to happen.

Whether a station broadcasts in SDTV or HDTV is not relevant.

Not that it's a effected market, but I know here in Rockford, the reason they don't have a digital up yet is because they have no where to put the antenna. Word on the street is their tower can't support a ditigal antenna (it has their analog plus 95.3 WHYH/Winnebago on it). IIRC their STL receive isn't even on the tower, it's on the roof of their shack.
