I was doing some research lately and noticed that the TV group, Nexstar Broadcasting (which owns several stations in mostly mid-sized markets and a media giant along with Sinclair, Media General, Tribune, Gannett/Tegna, etc., not to mention many stations in Texas) is based in Irving and doesn't have a flagship station. I was talking to a friend of mine and we both realized that, unlike the late Belo, you would think Nexstar should have a flagship station here in the DFW market. It's a shame since most of the stations here are owned and operated by their networks. Come to think of it, I don't like that at all.
In some way, I think it would be ideal if Nexstar and its spinoff company, Mission Broadcasting could buy one of the network O&Os and create a flagship station here. Probably not KDFW and KDFI since Fox owns the rights to the NFC (which include the Dallas Cowboys), Probably NBC could sell KXAS and keep KXTX but that won't be likely either. Maybe KTVT and KTXA. Maybe London could sell KTXD. I don't know but it would make sense for Nexstar to have a flagship station in DFW. What do you think?
