It's a pleasure, K.M. Hey, I get it.. I've been close to many others that live on a part of the spectrum, like I do. I have some difficulty putting things into words, too. I will know something and fully understand it, but have a fair amount of difficulty communicating what I know to others who may be eager to learn. Patience is the key. I, like you, get pretty annoyed over some users who do nothing but troll, but reading his contributions and how they are written, I don't get any vibes that this guy is trying to be malicious or disruptive. I've certainly seen far worse in attempts to communicate the thoughts that rapidly shuck and jive in a head that's not quite what y'all would consider "normal".

They will continue to leap frog and bounce TX sites for the foreseeable future, and hell no, no one in their right mind is going to hand a big 4 affiliation to them.

The Villarreals... almost as bad of a bottom-feeder operation as the church house on Pasadena Blvd.

Here in Houston a TEGNA/Nexstar merger would result in a KHOU/KTBU/KIAH triopoly.

If the merger is allowed, but without any triopolies, I could see KHOU being spun off or sent to a sidecar company.

Errrrr….ummmm…what?!? Has Mediafrog+ lost his mind?

Let me explain.

TEGNA’s KHOU is on RF11. Duopoly sibling KTBU is on RF33. The RF33 signal is superior to that on RF11, which is why the RF33 lineup includes a simulcast of the main KHOU 11.1 on virtual 11.11.

I could see a scenario where the channel lineup (or part of it) of KHOU RF11 is moved to KTBU RF33 to take full advantage of the better signal. The 11.xx virtual numbering would go to RF33, and a call letter swap would take place.

The legacy RF11 signal would be sold off (maybe to a sidecar) and perhaps become a diginet dumping ground. So you would have the “new” KHOU on RF33 using virtual 11.x and the “new” KTBU on RF11 using virtual 55.x.

Same thing could happen in DFW with WFAA on an inferior RF8 signal. The WFAA programming could be moved to KFAA RF30 or KDAF RF32. They already have a WFAA simulcast on KFAA using virtual 8.8.

Perhaps triopolies will be allowed, but if not, I think my scenarios might be a good possibility.

With Nexstar planning to centralize everything and whack headcount, probably not.

Meanwhile longtime anchor Shern-Min Chow is leaving KHOU after a 30 year run, getting out before the Nexstar takeover.

Nexstar-TEGNA merger has been approved and the deal has closed. KHOU/KIAH/KTBU are all Nexstar properties now.

I’ll refer everyone back to my comments in posts #3 and #6 of this thread, though we can now forget any divestiture scenario.

The KTRK produced 9pm news on KIAH should come to an end very soon.

The studios will be consolidated, though this will take a bit of time. Guessing ops move to the current KHOU location.

I would think the 39.1 signal on KPRC RF35, the 39.3 on KUHT RF8 and 39.5 on KTMD RF22 will all be moved to either KHOU RF11 or KTBU RF33 to keep everything under Nexstar control. 39.2 and 39.4 are already on RF11. Remember that the actual KIAH RF34 is one of the ATSC 3.0 combo signals for the market.

Best of luck to those who will lose their jobs as a result of this merger, though both parties have already been whacking jobs recently.

(CBS and CW) 19 KYTX, (MyNet) 36 KTPN, (FOX) 51 KFXK and (NBC) 56 KETK are all now Nexstar.

Everything else, up here, is an HC2/Innovative station, including the licensed full-powered KCEB, which is anything but. 3 of the big 4 networks are now owned by one company, plus both secondary networks.

East Texas cord cutters are really going to get the short straw in this merger.

I think that's a pretty spot-on assessment from the Commissioner. We're both old enough to very well remember the days of Ma Bell. I also remember a good many of the reasons that were given, then, for breaking up the Bell System, and I bet you do, too.

Apparently, their memories aren't as long as ours.

Austin now has a virtual quadropoly, as Nexstar now owns KXAN/36 (NBC) along with KVUE/24 (ABC) and indie KBVO/14. Oddly they operate CW outlet KNVA/54 via a sidecar.

It's the same thing here. The license for KFXK is under White Knight Broadcasting. KTPN is Nexstar, co-owned before with just KETK.

It makes one wonder, with the acquisition of CBS 19, which has a sizable OTA signal covering Lufkin-Nacogdoches, Tyler-Longview, and the immediate surroundings of each, how long will Nexstar keep the low-power KTPN? It doesn't even cover Tyler, as it is. Not even close. Perhaps it's time to put it out to pasture, much like what happened to its counterpart KLPN.

Perry Sook had a Nexstar townhall meeting at WFAA yesterday, and according to various sources he announced there would be staff reductions, and multiple station operations would be combined under one roof. Looks like the KIAH facility on Westpark will be toast.

On the Nexstar website, they don’t show Beaumont / Port Arthur stations separately but included in the Houston market, unlike similar sized markets like Abilene which are shown separately. Hmmm.
