WIRE used to think the same way. Nothing to keep Vicki. Any momentum the place had was limited to long time hosuehold names. Jim is still there. JD. Yes, Bedrock. No support staff though. It's not IF Hank dominates, it's WHEN.
Not as many public events WFMS is at.
If Emmis could wedge the WTHR deal on traffic that would be a big help also. They are so tied to "in house" traffic and news after blowing Metro out away back that TV deals aren't in the plans. More revenue. They won't break WFMS until they break the TV radio link it has.
To me this says a lot about how miserable it must be to work at Cumulus. I mean, programming WFMS SHOULD be a dream-job for a radio person. A #1 rated station with a heritage staff and tons of awards. One of the few stations still doing promotions and getting involved in the community. To get a shot at programming a station like that is something that most people would have killed for a few years ago, and now not just one, but TWO people have quit that job in the past year. They must be treating their programmers like real crap for both her and Bob Richards to have walked away from it. Sad.
Emmis has its little tv deal with Fox 59. so why would they go and try to wedge away WTHR. its not like WXIN. is looking to go to Entercom. and WISH is tied up with WFBQ. and WRTV i think has a bit of Singery with WJJK unless that deal went off the boards

I have always disliked using TV weathercasters...most of them do a lousy job on radio...to folksy, "non-radio voice". I in particular dislike hearing Randy Ollis (sp) talk...it's almost like listening to tom brokaw (similarly annoying).

Former OM Dave Wood also walked out without a job a couple of years ago. Former WFMS GSM Robbie Green left with out a job (though later got a gig at the Speedway w Charlie Morgan). Steve O'Brien on JJK bolted recently. Their national sales manager left the building and the business in the last month. I've heard that there are some other non-air people there that are actively seeking employment elsewhere. It must be tough to walk in there every day. I'd love to see a roster of who was there when Clue-less took over and where they are now. Between PPM and the disbursement of programming and sales talent, it will be very interesting to see what the market will look like 12 months from now. Predictions?
Nashville had a huge nice building that now has one or two offices left inside the ghost town. Glad to see that WFMS is the same as every other market.
We wonder why radio stinks as a whole. Here is your sign.
Yes, WFMS has been a long time destination. Even when I was a jock and that was pre-historic.
As far as the TV gig. It isn't about the weather. It's about the cross promotion. The nunber one news is still WTHR. This is why Hank needs to pry away WFMS. At some point there will be a total foul up involving cash with WTHR. The whole Mimi WTHR WFMS situation might be where this happens. We are far enough away from the purchase to see the last contracts end soon? Jim, JD, Mimi? Then WTHR will kick WFMS to the curb,
Vicki worked at WHHH for some time. She was there in 1995-?? I can't imagine her leaving WFMS without a reason, or many. WFMS used to be stability but so did Emmis.
In the last batch of tv numbers WTHR was down sharply in the morning. WXIN is soaring. Of course WXIN morning news is now on 5 signals; WXIN-59, WTTV-4.1, WTTV-4.2, WTTK 29.1 & WTTK-29.2.
Also in the last batch of TV numbers, WISH was up considerably in the evenings. I think they even won at 11pm (or was that the February sweeps?)
I doubt Emmis has any interest in pulling channel 13 away from 'FMS to put their content on Hank. Now, maybe for WIBC or WYXB... I also doubt that Emmis wants to replace the morning show on Hank ... yet. They'll give O'Brien a year or so solo and watch the books float by.
