Next Generation TV

I received the email post below from the National Association of Broadcasters.
They are apparently hoping to increase support for next gen tv and rolling out more
quickly than previously thought.

"As someone who values local broadcasting, we want to be sure you know about an exciting new way to watch your favorite local TV stations that's on the horizon. Next Generation TV - or Next Gen - is more fun and interactive than what you're used to, and the best part is, it's free!

With this new technology, you will be able to watch your local TV stations in stunning ultra-high definition and enjoy immersive, customizable audio, improved reception and interactive features – all for free. Also, Next Gen TV can provide improved emergency alert services targeted to your location, so you can always be informed about coming storms or other disasters to stay safe.

Mobile devices – like your smartphone or tablet – equipped with Next Gen TV receivers will make local television available virtually anywhere, making it easier for you to tune into live TV broadcasts anytime. And since you're accessing your favorite shows and sporting events over the air, you don't have to worry about relying on cellular services, running through your data cap or a monthly fee.

The future of TV is coming - broadcasters are urging the government to move quickly to allow stations to roll out these new services and features. Click here to learn more about Next Gen TV, and thank you for supporting local broadcasting!"

The cellphone companies won't even activate the FM radio chip that's in some smartphones. What makes the NAB think that they'll do that for a TV chip?
