Next Media Tweaking Their Duoploy

KEZR has Been identifying themselfs as 'My Mix 106-5' for a week. And KBAY has droped their slogan "The South Bay's Soft Rock". Could we be seeing any drastic changes anytime soon? I wonder what Dana has up his sleeve

Polka music? That would be a drastic change (and a welcomed one in many quarters). Well, it works quite well for WTKM: http://www.wtkm.com/

Actually, the Bay Area had a history of polka music from the 1930s on various stations, landing on KLOK until they dropped the ethnic programming and went to MOR/personality in the late-60s.

Polka Has a history here the bay area, but i think they might be heading for Oldies? they have been tweaking thier playlist ever since KFRC came on again. However the SJ area cant quite get KOIT clearly so we might not see anything at all. Overall i think its gonna be an interesing year for South Bay Radio

I have no inside info, not having asked our South Bay cousins about it, but my experience is that if a big change is in the works, it is not presaged by little changes like the above. Big ones tend to be rolled out all at once, or with a week or two of stunting (e.g. all Louie Louie [a KFJC/KALX joint invention, BTW] or all Frank Zappa or all sound effects or what have you).

These little tweaks are probably just the result of some perceptual research or whatever the heck they call that. Same thing that made Energy switch from "Beat of the Bay" to "Pure Dance".

Is this perhaps a preemptive strike by Next Media, implementing the "My" moniker -- used by Clear Channel in several markets (notably in Los Angeles and Sacramento) -- before CC can re-brand Star 101.3 FM with it?

A change in their moniker...Yep, that will make all the difference. ::)

Anybody got anything entertaining to listen too? Now that I might listen too.

Never underestimate the power of imaging. I used to find the Lite Rock on KOIT kind of boring. But now that they have "Fresh Lite Rock," I can't stop listening. It's like I'm addicted, or something. ;)

Okay, everybody. We're going to do an intervention for Llew. I want all of you here on Thursday morning. Let's say 10 o'clock sharp. I'll tell him that we're going to have coffee. We'll sit at that table over in the corner.

At about ten minutes after ten, I want all of you to just "show up." This is important. Llew is our friend. We can't lose him to this filthy "lite rock" stuff. I mean, what's next? "Lite rock" is a gateway format. Next he'll be up at 4 a.m., listening to Manboob on KTRB and yelling "YEAH! You're right, 'Cow! You tell 'em!"

Pray for Llew. We can't lose him. He still has so much to live for.

It's funny how packaging works. "Tinactin Antifungal Cream for Jock Itch" is the same formulation as "Tinactin Antifungal Cream for Athlete's Foot" but they can get $1 more for it when they label it for jock itch.

Likewise, I think more people are inclined to listen to a "smooth jazz" than to an "easy listening" station.

Could be an ajustment for PPM or a deep mysterious strategy alignment that only the shadow knows.

It's great to know that you guys care. Just in time, too. I've been having compulsive thoughts during Love Songs After Dark. Especially when KOIT plays Celine Dion. My wife is willing, but only if I turn off "that horrible music," as she calls it. I'm considering divorce.

When you come for the intervention, DK - bring that Tinactin. I've been noticing some chafing...

David, You need to stop spending so much time in the Antifungal aisle...

But thanks for the marketing tips.

Wait...Look at this tube of Tinactin...It's for "MY JOCK ITCH" I guess they must be tweeking thier marketing because of the excessive chafing or maybe PPM ;)

This Thred mus stop NOW!

Yes, Prod Boy, in the words of everyone's favorite diaper-clad antichrist, Stewie Griffin, "Stop this nonsense...stop it, I say!!" (Which means it'll go on for 10 more pages.)

I once had an Auntie Fungal Foam, too...she was terrific. We all miss her terribly. Sunday afternoons with fried chicken around her dinner table were the best when I was a yung'n!

But I digress...I wanted to express my deep concern for our friend, Llew. We can't abandon him now in what is obviously his time of need...rally 'round, one 'n' all.

I have this feeling that not only his marriage at stake...but his sanity as well...

What the blank this has to do with Next Media, who knows, but if you're game, so'm I...

And now that KOIT's numbers have dropped somewhat significantly in the Spring '08 Phase 1 Arbitrons,
from a 4.5 to a 3.9, one would think K-BAY would take advantage of going after the older demo, much
like KYMX Mix 96.1 in Sacramento has after KGBY dropped their AC sound for a "My 92.5" one...

Meantime, KDFC has jumped from 4th to 2nd in SFO...

Believe me, it's all in the marketing. If KGO changed their marketing from "News/Talk" to "Homey Flava" they might be able to get that 18-24 demographic they desperately need.

So Ronn Owens would become Ron Biggie O, or something?

David, you really need to lighten up.

18-24 year olds? I really don't think Bryman College and Colt 45 Malt Liquor can afford our rates.

But thanks for for listening... ;)

Statistically insignficant wobbles in a trend are nto the thing stations make programming decisions on.

Wobbles in trends in SF are very extreme, given the geography of the market is so influential and no FM comes near to covering the whole market.
