As of 1pm this afternoon The Next Media Wilmington Cluster was history. (And what a book could be written) The transfer is complete and as of now Sunrise Broadcasting A Division Of Capitol Broadcasting is on the Air. Stand By!

Capitol is a pretty decent operation and they never do anything half way. It's always a top notch operation. I think they will do good.

To take this discussion further, how long will it be before "NextMedia" will sell
the remainder of their radio outlets nationwide?

Is this the Capitol out of Raleigh who owns WRAL? If so, Jim Goodman has deep pockets and knows how to run stations. I doubt Cumulus-Wilmington will be sold as it is one of the few markets in the company that is hitting budget.

Check out the history of some of these great radio stations once owned by CBC...

WLVV - Statesville/Charlotte
WXIK - Shelby/Charlotte
KMAC - San Antonio
WRNL - Richmond

and waaay back there...

WMDE - Greensboro

I'm sure there's an explanation (read: excuse) for each of them.

Later....

You are right about WCMC. I really thought when they went country they would give WQDR a run for the money. Boy, was I wrong! Now all sports??? I still think they are a good and well run company. I hear they are good to their employess as well.

I think you forgot one or two. I think they had WBAL in Baltimore, MD at one time and a station in Florida too they sold off in either the 80s or early 90s.

CMC aside they are a good stable company and yes many of the employees have been with them practically forever. Look how long Bill Jordan has been there. He's a super nice guy too. All of the employees I met when I toured Mix 101.5 a few years ago were nice.

I'm not sure if a management shakeup is coming now that the sale has closed,
but i assume they have to divest one of their stations due to limitations in the
market since Capitol Broadcasting owns a television outlet in Wilmington, which
one will be put on the market?, My guess would be WLGD 98.7, they have a
strong signal into both Jacksonville & Wilmington, and the ratings for the
Spanish format has been very disappointing, as for others that may switch
formats around, they should consider moving WMFD to 104.5, tweak WSFM
at 98.3, WAZO 107.5, and WKXB 99.9, and sell 630 AM or go dark, of course
Jim Goodmon did this he could keep 98.7 and return "WILL FM" here, or put
on a format that is working well at sister station WRAL-FM in Raleigh.

98.7 was already AC and that didn't work out. And it was a pretty good AC. GNI will be hard to unseat from the AC/Hot AC throne... it's a very well programmed station. The best format they can put up against it they already are -- variety hits.

Channel 10 is a LPTV/Class A/whatever (it's not a full power station). I don't know if that makes any difference in the ownership rules.
