Actually most of the stations I have ever programmed or managed were predicted by the pundits to be candidates for failure under the "it won´t work here" or "nobody likes that kind of music" sort of excuse.

The imenent success of Radio X?.

You're talking about a station that has no stick, NO STICK, and hasn't been around even a full book, dont get all crazy about their imenent success.....That's foolish to even utter publicly.

Actually, it looks like they have THREE sticks and a decent coverage area unlike some Island stations. But no, they are no threat to NYC. I will agree that it is a bit early to declare the station a ratings success, but you have to admit...the station already has a big buzz.

Yes sir I know this however you'll note that I spelled it in quotes as I was pointing out that he had spelled it the same way prior. And as for three sticks, I dont care if you have ten sticks/repeaters ect,..they cannot match the power of one GOOD, or even a DECENT stick.

Since this is a radio board and not the National Spelling Bee, I will not go into the fact that it was spelled right in Lalumia's message you replied to but not in your post.

Back to the radio portion of the discussion: time will tell if WLIX can make a big splash in Suffolk county. I kinda like that they found a way to get this format on the radio. As to the claim that you must have a big stick (or at least a decent one) to get listeners - it depends. Sure a mainstream AC format like WALK needs to have that 50kw signal to keep the soccer moms, but the audience that will enjoy the alternative programming on 94.7 (or 94.9 and 104.5) will seek out the best signal and listen to it.

If it is all about size, explain the spew of bodily fluids over WLIR dropping "Neo-Breeze" and attempting to woo back some of the listeners they pissed out THIS time. You can't hear the station unless you are eastbound of the William Floyd and even then it's a question of if you even WANT to.

Hell, WMJC pulls a few tenths of a percent most every book and THEIR city grade signal about covers the Park & Ride on the LIE!

The funny thing about that question is that KROCK stopped being a modern rock station a while back. It put the edgy stuff on the Internet as KROCK2 and started promoting themselves as just a rock station. Since they have the programming in place for KROCK2, it makes perfect sense to put that up on the HD2 channel (if the new secret group of corporate owners that want to control WHAT formats someone puts on HD will allow it). So a handful of radio geeks and engineers will hear it for the next couple of years until radios come out and get down to a price that real people will plunk down a credit card at Best Buy for...but it will be there.
