Next station to flip

There isn't much going on right now in Philadelphia radio other than WFYL being sold. Other than WFYL, what could be the next Philadelphia station to change formats?

WIP(AM) will flip in January.

Two questions

1. Where did you find out about this? (WIP AM)

2. What are they flipping to? Talk? Spanish? Another ethnic?

I think that WPEN-AM will finally go ESPN radio 24/7, expect for local play by play, instead of what it is now.

It should. The question is, if and when this happens, will the FM end its affiliation with ESPN and launch a local morning show?

I also wonder if WIP will be a "24/7" affiliate of the CBS network, or if it will pre-empt the network for local play by play and, if so, only for conflicts, or for the Eagles simulcast, too?

WBEB. To all Christmas music, of course!

Sorry, it was an opportunity I could not pass up. ;D

That's what I was trying to do, but yours is better because it's earlier. :)

As 2 other posts tonight show, the next to flip will be WPEN 950, as Family Radio gets it. Guess this means 97.5 stays an ESPN affiliate. Could WKDN be 950's new call?

Unless they're going to move AM 950's city of license to Camden, my guess would be probably not.

Why not? They still control the call, and they used it in the market for over 40 years. I doubt that many listeners think twice about the original COLs of WCKY Cincinnati (Covington, Kentucky) or WIND Chicago (Gary, Indiana).

WKDN is connected by 40 years of heritage to Family Radio, not Camden.

Nobody voluntarily associates themselves with Camden if there's any way around it (save perhaps an opportunistic government agency).

WWIQ would rather be associated with an "abandoned power plant in Fishtown" than Camden. Other than the antiquated legal ID COL concept, for the past 30 years or so, 106.9 hasn't had any on-air connection whatsoever with Camden that I'm aware of.

As mentioned elsewhere, FR has mothballed the KDN calls and they will most likely return on 950, just as the WFSI calls migrated from 107.9 to the 860 frequency FR moved to in the Baltimore market. It's all about identity, and when you have 40 years connected with a set of calls, there's no reason or need to change that.
