Next week's WTKK tryout: Monica Crowley

A small bit in today's Globe (Names section) says that while WTKK is trying out Michael Graham 3-6 pm M-F this week, next week the honors will go to Monica.
No, not THAT Monica! Monica _Crowley_ (who will also appear on Comedy Central's
"Stephen Colbert Report" Mon night at 11:30 pm)

http://www.wabcradio.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.monicamemo.com

"And don't expect to hear Jay Severin back on the air in Boston any time soon. Greater Media CEO Peter Smyth told us yesterday he and Severin are still talking, but 'TKK is trying out new drive-time jocks: This week Michael Graham, next week Monica Crowley."

Note to newspapers: "jock", short for disc jockey...not really the same as a talk show host, but maybe that's just nit-picking

I heard Monica on Imus a few weeks ago pushing an invasion of Iraq. She didn't appear to be joking. Ph.D aside, she's out there in the wingnut land .

Re: Next week's WTKK tryout: Monica Collins

It took WTKK too long to develop Jay Severin; it is really back to the drawing board for a station that is a huge waste of the public airwaves.

Like If a tree falls in the forest and Monica Crowley is there to cover it, who cares enough to tune in and hear her alleged "report" ?

What about Monica Collins? They picked up Barnicle from The Globe,
Collins is exiled from The Herald...oh, that's right, The Track Gals talked to a vacuum on WTKK. Guess Hannity's syndication is cheaper since the White House
allegedly pays WTKK to air Hannity

Why Not A Talented Black Daily Talk Host in Boston. Boston Radio is Worse Than The Old Red Sox !

Monica has a face for TV and no voice for radio. Why not a strong local talk talent. And isn't it TIME for a strong, talented, full-time Black man or woman to fill a daily talk radio spot in Boston. The color barrier is still like the Berlin Wall in Boston Radio. Boston TV is light years ahead in this area

Re: Why Not A Talented Black Daily Talk Host in Boston. Boston Radio is Worse Than The Old Red Sox !

Michael Holley was black when he covered sports for the Boston Globe. He was black when he covered sports for Fox Sports Net. Maybe I'm putting my neck out here but I'm fairly confident that he's still black when he talks sports every day on WEEI, the highest rated sports station in the USA and second highest rated station in the Boston. That kind of gig is nothing to sneeze at.

Crowley not doing well in N.Y. either

Not cutting it in N.Y., and what's the MSNBC obsession at WTKK? Nobody watching! Can't figure out the approach.

Re: Why Not A Talented Black Daily Talk Host in Boston. Boston Radio is Worse Than The Old Red Sox !

My fault. Should have mentioned him but I wasn't thinking about sports radio. Michael Holley is very good and I think he accomplished what the whole civil right movement was and is about - no one thinks about his color only his talent and ability.
Thanks for the correction.

Tell that to Paula O'Connor, Whittemore, and 'BZ's PD.

Re: Next week's WTKK tryout: Monica Collins

You're funny, you really are! You're funnier than Al Franken.

Trouble is, EVERYBODY is funnier than Al Franken (cue comedians' "rim shot") :)

Guess Hannity's
> syndication is cheaper since the White House

Hillary pays for Franken to air on Air America, then.

So far we are only taking your word for the "White House pays for Hannity".
If this is true, then I'm having John Kerry's love child. (Yes, a man
CAN give birth--just see "Junior"...)

Exactly, nobody is thinking about "what color should the voice be" but "who's best for the bottom line." You can't now go back and say they should get a Black host just for skin color.

Isn't that why a 200 middle-aged male PDs added Laura Ingraham? Having a fantasy here or there is required in today's stressful corporate environment, right?

you know as well as anybody, about 4 format vp's control talk programming nationwide, don't think Laura's on 200, seems high.

get over it!

To hire somebody solely because of their race is RACIST. That goes both ways.
Get over it...
