NextMedia Selling?

Next announced the sale of WJBR in Wilmington Del. Sold Erie and Decatur clusters too. Is Next getting out of the radio biz to concentrate on Outdoor? They are focusing hard on cost reductions...let go a 20+ year vet in New Bern to cut costs and some other moves....hmmmmmm.

WJBR is a stand alone and delivers Next Media a 10 million dollar profit when it closes!

I don't think the sale of WJBR and the stations in Decatur and Erie allows anyone to conclude Next is exiting the radio business...on the contrary....I see these sales as necessary manuevers in preparation for targeted acquisitions.

My money is on selling off non-core/non clustered assets then, as they tried to do last year, sell the rest of the stations to one group.

Ahh the ramblins of the uninformed.

Erie and Decatur were absolue S#@t holes that made no money...until they were sold

The station in DE is a stand alone...who has that anymore?

Clear Channel just sold Sante Fe...so with your line of thinking...Is Clear Channel just going to focus on Concerts?

If Decatur is a s#@t hole and made no money until it was sold, then it is only too appropriate they sold it to their good friends at Archway.

Uninformed? I don't think so.
Erie Market #165 Next's revenues 6.5 mill with 60% of the markets revenue.
Myrtle Market #164 Next's revenues 4.5 mill with 38.5% of the markets revenue.
Decatur Market #277 Next's revenues 2.8 mill with 55.8% of the markets revenue.

Erie and Decatur both made money but not at the margins wanted. Next has a habit of paying a too much for stations and then trying to force a margin on the sales side, just look at Wilmington, NC, but not the case in Delaware.

Clear Channel hasn't sold 20% of their total stations in the last year, so no your analogy doesn't hold up.

I do agree though, no one better to screw up Decatur than our friends at Archway!

Did that little report mention the millions it would take to remodel the facilites?

And what is with adding Myrtle in there?

Erie is a new facility, and according to the new owners is a "state of the art facility." Don't know about Decatur. (we both know Archway ain't got millions for a new facility)

Myrtle's inclusion was to show that a cluster one market size bigger, i.e. Decatur; was taking in 2mill more a year in revenue, to refute your uninformed claim that Decatur and Erie "made no money...until sold."

I know, no one told you there would be math involved.

Since you are so much better informed, please tell us why they are trimming staff and vehicles in New Bern.

Mr. Son,

It appears that you are the one that is not totally informed.

I did like your comparison of the markets however.

You've never worked at a hole that the owner thought was a palace?

Don't know about Decatur. (we both know Archway ain't got millions for a new facility)

Decatur was/is a HOLE! Would take a million for the building...and for equipment...probably another 500k to make the place work well. Good luck Archway

You know me better than you think...I am not a math guy :)

My guess would be to save money? Maybe other stations need transmitters, ect...although that 43 million should help with that

If you look at where NextMedia owns stations and billboards....The Carolinas are their biggest "hub"

Oh you better believe NM is selling out! Where I live in Fayette-nam a friend of mine is a high up with the MB NM properties and they've already started the shave. From what he tells me if you're doing middays or nights on WRNS or WERO, start the looking process. Looks like those pds are going to have to start doing their own music logs and promotions.

Make the books look better and sell out. Oh well, back to the car lot.

Nahhhh...he's already checking out. Got a great gig in another great city. With an even greater company. He's fine. I may sell cars, but I don't "sell out".
