Nextmedia

Nextmedia the owners of a number of FM's that broadcast in the suburban Chicago area are looking for a new GM. Do these stations have a chance in that community? Seems to me these stations would just be in the shadows of the Chicago giants!

Well, sure, there is absolutely some of the old "umbrella" effect going on there. But... BUT...

Aurora is Illinois' second largest city. Joliet is the state's 4th largest city.

The four counties involved--DuPage, Will, Kendall & Kane--have a population of more than 2.2 million--bigger than metropolitan Cleveland, Cincy or Kansas City.

They're far enough out that Chicago's downtown Class B sticks don't quite reach--the 60 dBu contours miss both Aurora & Joliet.

And most important, the market is far enough out that the SELLERS from Chicago's biggies won't screw with making calls out there. Besides, why spend all your time and energy trying to sell $200 spots in Aurora when you can spend the same time & energy selling $1000 spots in Chicago. It don't make no sense.

In other words, yeah, it's a goldmine.

Now, having said all that, I don't know how Nextmedia is to work for... don't know what their expectations are... don't know any of the particulars.

But if I had any inkling to move back to suburban Chicago and put up with the lousy winters and lousy traffic, this would be a real tempting situation. Beautiful area, 6 months a year... and a shitload of money to be had... by somebody.
